Ferentz Era Over

Since the start of the 2010 season, Ferentz is 68-45, going 2-5 in bowl appearances (one year not bowl eligible). Cut out the 2015 season, and Ferentz is painfully mediocre. He hasn't achieved more than 8 wins in any other season since 2009. Ponder that. "Preparing To Be The Best." ...achieving middling results for a decade.

Well you should be thrilled then...we have a shot to win 10 games this year...way above average. Get that man a raise.

As long as the money keeps flowing in, the Ferentz era isn't ending any time soon

that's a $3 dollar bill.

What's funny is that most of the Ferentz haters most likely predicted 6-6 or 7-5 this year. Shouldn't you be happy that we have a chance to exceed your prediction. Or shouldn't you be patting yourself on the back for your brilliance?

What you guys fail to realize is that it's the coaches responsibility to put his team in a position to win with great game plans on both sides of the ball. What game did our coaching staff not put us in position to win?

Wisconsin...do you think they asked our punt returner to fumble? Do you think they asked Beyer to stumble into that punt on the 10 yard line? Penn State? Do you think they told Stanley to overthrow Hockenson when he was wide freaking open by 30 yards? How about Stanley missing wide open guys all night at Penn State. Had Stanley ever shown that poor of an ability to throw the ball? No. They should have won both games, but the PLAYERS FAILED TO EXECUTE. There was nothing wrong with either game plan.

Purdue is the only game where you could say our defensive game plan was suspect, but sometimes good players just make great plays and Blough made a few throws that he knows are epic for him. We had a great offensive game plan and executed it. Purdue is a good football team and they got all the breaks in that game.

B10 road games are hard to win against the top of the league. Michigan almost got beat at NW earlier this year for example. Wisconsin and Penn State got torched at Michigan. Wisconsin got beat at NW. OSU got hammered at Purdue. Nebraska has been beaten by everyone on the road this year. Would you rather be Nebraska?

Stop these stupid chicken little threads. Learn the game.

Mary, I actually thought the talent warranted a Big Ten title level team. This has been quite the surprise. I haven't been down on Ferentz for many years--I thought they'd done some good recruiting in recent years and were ready to take the next step. Taking the accountability off Ferentz's shoulders for this debacle is so Ferentz.

Iowa wins out. You doom n gloom crowd will be eating crow. Nebraska will get beat down by a team with a legit D like us. Put me in the crowd that believes.

You don't get it. They no longer have a shot at the Big Ten West title and there are still 3 games to go...this takes the wind out of the sails of a season that had promise for much more. Most fans get this. We're in line for another average Ferentz season, even if we win out. 9 years of this is getting old.

What "promise"? Who, exactly, picked us to have even a remote chance of winning the B1G West before the season? Nobody, that's who.

When Iowa fans start feeling bad about losing their wide receivers to graduation or the NFL we will know that Kirk has moved the program beyond meh vanilla.

BTW, wonder how that feels?
I still don't think that NS has hit a WR in stride on a deep route. He missed couple more yesterday. Blough hit at least three

I agree. I think the way we beat MN & IN got some fans revved up for a huge season. I predicted that they would go 8-5 and think that is still very likely. We will beat Illinois & a) beat NE and lose our bowl game or b) lose to NE and win our bowl game. I am not mad, just mildly disappointed whenever the Hawks lose.

Most fans aren't players. Purdue entered yesterday's action two back in the loss column to jNW and has already lost their head to head meeting. They have no better chance of winning the west than we do. They still had plenty to play for, and showed it. So do we. Our schedule, on paper, ends light. With teams Northwestern, Purdue, and Wisconsin have already defeated. I was concerned in a thread from two weeks ago that Purdue would be tough given a choice between them and Penn State because it was at the end of a brutal stretch to our schedule-4 away out of 5 games.

10-3, which is still eminently attainable, would not be an average season, regardless of who the wins were against. It would be up there with Kirk's five or six best. Even the famous 2009 season had some late season bumps in the road.

Ending comment: We are not losing to Nebraska. They can't hang with us physically in the trenches. No way.

Clearly, you have not learned from participation on this forum that straight, sensible talk is not allowed. You should be ashamed.

We didn't have a remote chance of winning the West? Everyone knew the west was weak before the season played out. And guess what? The west is weak. Iowa had as good a chance as anyone and pissed it down their collective leg. The talent, the easy schedule, set us up to be front runners. Wisconsin was really the only other known commodity prior to the season.

Wah, wah, wah. You had a defense with three new LBs, and playing two freshman corners. At some point, didn't you expect the defense to struggle? I knew it was going to happen...and we were going to have to outscore teams. We almost did.
Excuses excuses excuses. So when we're mediocre again next year it will be because Fant (and maybe Hock) left early and we graduated XYZ linemen.

I'm not making any excuses for this team or program, they deserve the criticism they are getting right now. Iowa is still a pretty darn good football program in the grand scheme of things, but it's hard to argue that they are anything special and haven't been since 2015. They're just not. When given opportunity to win the B1G west, they have not capitalize nearly enough to be chest thumping. It's disappointing. I am anxious to see where this team falls and if they can get to 9 or 10 wins, which is rare at Iowa, but regardless of the record, it will feel hollow knowing we lost to every team that mattered sans ISU and maybe Northwestern.

Just as a matter of course, when people talk about 8 or 9 win seasons it is generally a regular season total they are counting. So, best we can do is 9.
