Ferentz Connected to NFL Job…Again

No way, no how a GM with his own @$$ on the line hires a 4-win college coach.

Herman Cain had a better shot at becoming president.

NEIN NEIN NEIN!

Herman Cain only ran for office because of Bill Clinton. Then Herman remembered that Bill got into trouble for what he did in the oval office and dropped out of the race.

You can't be a discreet ladies man as president.

This is classic.

Hawkeye fans are getting giddier than Norwalk thinking about MeatMan and Freak, just from the IDEA of the CHANCE that they can get rid of their head coach.

Just a few people tweeting a few rumors and random thoughts, and people are dreaming of changes.

We're on a long slide, folks.

This is a non-story. The real story that is unfolding is about the lack of momentum in this football program (and I am being generous here). Expectations are as low as I can remember.

First off, happy holidays to all!

Second, thanks to Jon for the article, and all the posts that followed (some of you guys are funnier than the credit that is given to you).

On to the subject at hand, speaking as an ordinary average fan... if the Kansas City Chiefs' GM should survive a 2-14 season "end of season house cleaning" (not necessarily a given) and wants our coach, who am I to lose any sleep over it?

Raise your hand if you will miss the "horizontal offense", and the resultant plunge to the bottom of all offensive statistical categories. Or if you will wince at the thought of not seeing another ultra conservative home finale senior day punt at the NE 31 yard line.

Perhaps the thought of not seeing another one yard out pass on fourth and three at home with the game on the line versus Purdue will bring a tear to your eye...

Or maybe your thoughts of the future are clouded by memories of being down more than three scores at Michigan in the third quarter, and the Hawks going with a blazing run left, then a surprise run right, and then a totally unexpected throw short of the sticks (incomplete in any event) to open the half and set the tone for the rest of the game...

Why go on, if it isn't abundantly clear to the head coach that the 2012 season was a management "train wreck" and the plan for the 2013 season to "stay the course" promises nothing but more of the same futility, then I will feel nothing but relief if our head coach leaves for the NFL. If nothing else, it will be step one in the process of trying to un-$%^$# the mistakes of 2012 and win football games going forward...

My apologies if my post is too cut and dried for some, but the NFL rumors since 2002 have grown a little stale of late given our coach's penchant for refusal to acknowledge the obvious...

If you can't identify your mistakes, you have little chance of correcting them.

My two cents on this latest rumor.

Very good post!! I agree 100%, time for Ferentz to go!

My apologies if I came across as anti-this person or anti-that person. I am simply done with the NFL rumor carousel.

As to the Iowa football program in general, everything I've seen since the arrival of the new offensive philosophy has left me pretty much dispirited and indifferent. I appreciate everything the current regime has accomplished, but, this past year was simply too painful to watch.

I really don't care who the head coach is, as long as he can identify the first down markers, the opponent's end zone and orient the team accordingly.

I think Ferentzs comment about being 58 really says it all. He could care less about getting his "butt shot off" at Iowa right now as well. He brought in a terrible offensive coordinator and had a QB who couldn't do anything last year and he refused to make any changes and admit he is wrong, because, hey, at 58 and with the contract he has, who cares, right?

This is the first time that the Ferentz to the NFL rumors didn't bother me. At this stage I could care less if he stays, or goes.

To me, he could come or go as well & I'd roll with it. See Jon's blog on what we should take from the Wisky hiring. But, I agree completely with you, this is the first time the talk really doesn't bother me.

Actually when I think about it, it might come as a bit of relief if it ever came to fruition. Kind of sad, actually.

We are becoming the NCAAF version of the Chicago Cubs. "Kinnick" is the new "Wrigley." Screw the mediocrity, game day is fun!

As a Cardinals fan, my standards are somewhat higher.

KF will barely get mentioned at all for any of these jobs. KF used all his chances up to move on ("allegedly") years ago and is now stuck at Iowa with a FAT BUYOUT..

Actually I got a chuckle out of the thread title started by Jon. Too Funny!!

I don't care either way...but I have serious reservations about who we could get at this point in the game to replace Kirk...and a Lickliter type hire could kill Hawkeye football for decades...this isn't basketball, you can't turn a football program on a dime at a place like Iowa.

The sig has set in. People know that KF will have a surge when his current young players get some experience. It will be enough to turn the corner to a few 8 or 9 win seasons, with a bowl victory included in those totals. In 2015 and beyond there is high likelihood that Iowa dodges Urban until the odd chance of the B1G CG.

Basically, Iowa has turned into UGA every three years and Purdue the other 3. Fans complain during the PU years, bu not enough to ward off the UGA years.

But my favorite thing will be in 2014 when people will hope for the Hawks to keep losing just to break the pattern and shut me up.

People won't have to hope for it.

The offense is going to have to be able to show a pulse to get 6 wins and a bowl game.

How many starters return on each side of the ball?

Kirk needs to go full troll mode. Call a press conference for 2:15 this afternoon when all the state sports media is down in Memphis getting a happy ending from Pauw and announce his intentions to take the Chiefs job. This way everybody is scrambling to cover the story and every five minutes of the liberty bowl Kirk's name gets brought up over and over again and the Bottom Line keeps scrolling it.
