Evolving selection committee dynamics...

Hawks need ripping...especially the inept coach...millions for vanilla...plus excuses...

Any playoff decided by a committee of human beings is unfair...

Discussions about Iowa winning the national title formula...just stop...five blow out bowl losses in a row...non competitive...embarrassing effort and preparation...comedy of ineptitude...

Now the Pinstripe...wow...

This is not the same as tOSU last year. At least tOSU beat Oklahoma handily last year. Alabama has no such win, played an easy non-conference schedule and only played 8 conference games. tOSU got in over PSU, a team in the same conference, with two losses.

Yep, the playing field ins't even close to being fair. Auburn would have been in as a 2 loss team if they beat Georgia. Ohio St. wins the B1G with two losses and they are out. The schedule Bama played was a complete joke, heck Wisconsin's schedule was tougher, and they are out. Think about that for a second, the national media was bagging on Wisconsin forever about their schedule, but in comes Bama.

Results on the field don't matter, this is and always will be a blue blood popularity contest.

I think the CFP committee just told everyone that if you schedule a tough non conference opponent, you better win. Ohio St is the prime example.

Ohio St. was in last year even if they play Mercer instead of Oklahoma. A non conference loss hurts 100x worse than a win helps.

12-1 Ohio State with a big ten championship 100% gets into the CFP over alabama. That means scheduling Oklahoma killed their chances of making the playoffs and they were better off scheduling western Idaho tech.

Alabama was ranked #1 for the entire season - until they lost to Auburn. They deserved that ranking for those weeks. I watched them. They are freeking great. They deserve what they got.

No they should not be playing Mercer. But they're still deserving

I would be fine with a 8 team playoff for the National Championship. This 4 team playoff still smells too much like the BCS system.

1. Clemson vs. 8. USC
2. Oklahoma vs. 7. Auburn
3. Georgia vs. 6. Wisconsin
4. Alabama vs. Ohio St.

This would provide a true national champion, provide the spots for the B1G, SEC, PAC12, ACC, BIG12 to be represented and still provide opportunity for a highly ranked independent (ie; Notre Dame) and a non power 5 team to occasionally crack into the nation championship picture.

4 is not enough, and 16 would be too many!

I would also take it a step further! I would let the top 10 bowls host playoff games and the National Championship game be played in a city that places a bid to host the NCG similar to choosing sites like that of the Olympics, with no city being able to be picked within the same decade. Just my humble opinion.

I think you can throw USC out as another team that could have made the playoff if they had Mercer instead of Notre Dame. Penn St. missed the playoffs last year because they had Pitt instead of a Mercer. These playoff committees are making it undesirable for programs to schedule a non conference schedule.

Collage football made a big ratings gains this year. The NFL has helped raise college ratings. The collage game also helped themselves by having a bunch of early non-conference games of high stature. If this format continues, I would anticipate fewer opening weeks like the 2017 season.

Just for fun, let's put Wisconsin VS Alabama in a contest to see who belongs in the number 4 spot. Both one loss teams. Both played schedules that were not highly rated. Alabama does not win their division. Wisconsin wins the West BT going away, and plays 9 regular season conference games. Alabama does not win the conference title, or play in a conference championship game, and plays only 8 conference games in total. Wisconsin has to play an "extra" game against OSU and loses in a highly competitive game. Alabama watches games on TV that day. Didn't OSU go to the playoffs last year with a resume' similar to WI's.

Just to be clear, I have to live in WI and listen to their BS. I have season football and basketball tickets in Iowa City and saw my first Iowa game when Evy was coaching there. I have absolutely no love for the Bad gers.

I personally think this could set the stage for expanding the playoff to 8 teams. I don't think you can set precedent to not recognize a P5 Conference Championship game winner. This season, they left out B1G and Pac-12. I don't think this has happened before. The Big 12 has always been left out because they didn't have a Championship game.

Now I see further consolidation of conferences to four 16-team conferences with 4 automatic berths and then 4 at-large births.

IF you have 4 16 team conferences you will have a 16 team playoff by having conference semi-final games not just CCG's and the 4 winners will be the CFP.

The Conference Championships would be the same format as they are now. 2 divisions within each conference and each division winner goes to the Conf. Championship game.

That may be true but they haven't really proven anything on the field. Their best win is LSU, a team that lost to Troy. The one really good team Alabama played, they lost.

It's a very bad precedent to pass over two conference champs, who have proven themselves on the field, for a team that hasn't beat anyone in the top 15, played an easy non conference and only played 8 conference games.

Bama might be the OSU of last year and get rick rolled off the field by Clemson. I hope Dabo puts a 100 burger on them

Alabama may win. Alabama is a good team on paper but that shouldn't be enough to get you in the CFP. Why even have conference championship games or any games? Why play a tough non-conference schedule? Why have a committee? We could just let Vegas decide on paper. Iowa will never have a chance if that's the case. At some point a team should have to prove it on the field during the season.

It doesn't matter who was ranked #1 by the media or coaches in the preseason polls. Hell Florida State was ranked #3 going into this season and look how that turned out.

Alabama was ranked #1 by the CFP for 2 weeks and then lost to Auburn and dropped to 5th. Auburn then got crushed by Georgia and Alabama moved UP to 4th because of it? Because that makes sense?

I think Jon put it best in his podcast. The committee should drop the whole teams that "deserve" to be in the playoffs. They are going to pick who they want, not based on who is deserving, or who had the best season. Alabama was just awarded the "lifetime" achievement award, and it got the them #4 spot in the college football playoffs. If anyone is stupid enough to believe that any other school not named Bama would have made it with that resume, I got a bridge to sell you at the Pinstripe Bowl.
