Evolving selection committee dynamics...

I personally think this could set the stage for expanding the playoff to 8 teams. I don't think you can set precedent to not recognize a P5 Conference Championship game winner. This season, they left out B1G and Pac-12. I don't think this has happened before. The Big 12 has always been left out because they didn't have a Championship game.

Now I see further consolidation of conferences to four 16-team conferences with 4 automatic berths and then 4 at-large births.

I learned 2 obvious things today: Conference championships are simply a money grab and if you are a power 5 team it serves no purpose to have a difficult non conference schedule. If you can get out of those games and bring in a MAC bottom feeder you do it.

You do it IF you are Bama, U$C, O$U, Oklahoma, etc. It doesn't work out so well for a Wisconsin or Iowa. Iowa or Wisconsin can go 12-0, but STILL have to win their CCG to get into the CFP. The others? Not so much/, as evidenced by O$U barely missing it with 2 losses.

This is starting to set a precedence that you might not want to make your conference championship. The loser of that game is guaranteed to be out of the CFP but if you are sitting outside looking in the committee seems more forgiving.

It kind of invalidates the conference championship games

It only matters if you're OSU, Alabama, USC, or Notre Dame. Let's not kid ourselves.

Those are the only teams that get this type of pass. If OSU got off the bus in Iowa City, it would be a different story. But they didn't. They still look like a paper tiger, so they shouldn't get in. And if they had, they would have been awful.

This is going about the way I said it would. The CFB playoffs is a complete and utter Joke. Only a blue blood would even be considered with Bama's resume.

Alabama basically got a bye, while Auburn and Georgia had to play an extra game to determine who got it. What a joke. Same thing happened with Ohio St. last year, they get a bye. This is as rigged a system as there could be.

I am not a season ticket holder so I am okay with Iowa bringing in bottom feeders. I have no problem with Iowa having to win the conference championship to get in.

The CFB playoff committee also just told every team to make sure they play Mercer rather than Oklahoma in their non conference. If OSU plays Mercer, they are in and Bama is out. Instead they schedule a tough Non con game and it keeps them out of the playoffs.

Why have no problem with Iowa having to win CCG to get in? If 2015 had not featured a B1GCG, Iowa would have been in at 12-0, right? Actually, Iowa would have been left out based on "schedule".

In other words, Iowa or Wisconsin has to play a tough non-con. Bama, Oklahoma, U$C, O$U, et. al., do not.

Yeah, that smacks of "objective" and "equitable"...

Correct and last year OSU went to Norman and beat a very good OU team so that gave OSU more pull to get into the playoffs than a 2 loss PSU team that got buried by Michigan.

Each year is different but the SEC was not a tough conference except for Georgia, Bama, and Auburn. The big was certainly as tough up and down the conference as Florida, Tenn, and other SEC teams pretty bad.

But yet HN posters want Iowa to play a stronger non conference when It clearly doesn't matter

It DOES matter for non-bluebloods. "Chosen few" it doesn't matter. unless it comes down to $EC, which gets automatic pass over other conferences.

The CFP comittee just told everybody that brand means more than merit, which everybody already knew. There's hundreds of millions of dollars involved here. That doesn't get left up to chance.

We are still largely in the same mythical national championship place we were in veggie the BCS. It is always going to be a popularity contest.

Because life is unfair.

I think the CFP committee just told everyone that if you schedule a tough non conference opponent, you better win. Ohio St is the prime example.

I really hope Delany goes on the warpath. 2 SEC teams and no B1G teams should really make him angry regardless of what's happened in the past.
He was just interviewed by phone on ESPN. Pretty much "Meh, we need to get back to work." Typical losing Midwestern mentality.

This is not the same as tOSU last year. At least tOSU beat Oklahoma handily last year. Alabama has no such win, played an easy non-conference schedule and only played 8 conference games. tOSU got in over PSU, a team in the same conference, with two losses.

Exactly this.
It's the same popularity contest that the bcs was, except now they get 3 games out of it.

Wisconsin had a golden chance to be in the national spotlight for weeks to come, helping recruiting, gaining even more distance from a fading Iowa program...

I love it when things don't work out for Bucky!!! Merry Christmas to me!!!!
Especially when ... you ...
get to rip the Hawks ... in the ... process.

Such ... a happy ... New ... Year ... for ... you.
Happy New Year to you!
