McCollum Interview

Yeah I had seen that interview and thought it was really good as it showed how Ben goes about his business as a head coach.

I try not to be a board hog and post everything I see. Those of you who have been along for the ride on this forum as long as I have, know I have been posting a lot more than I usual do.

I just want to keep interest up on the board and also in the Iowa sports programs. Also, were in the off season so typically things get pretty dead this time of the year. So, with a new basketball coach and an all knew coaching staff there is a lot to monitor and follow.

Thanks HawkeyeHypnos for sharing that link. It was fun watching for a second time.

Good to keep the Nation active, perhaps it will be around for another year of Hawkeye News

And especially the Football and Basketball game threads

Kinda makes the games more interesting

It's All Good

SIAP. Win and fans will come.

Speaking of keeping forums alive, was anyone else here previously on the old Hawk Central forum when it was moderated by Todd Worley?
That was Hawk Forum if I remember right. I didn't know who was monitoring it. I used the same forum name over there also. There was a small group of us that did the live forum for basketball when Todd Lickliter was here. I think we all need professional help after doing that every game. With just a few games left in the season of Todd's last year I think we had lost all hope when the U of I stated that there was no intent to get rid of Todd. Then came the announcement that he was being let go.

I believe the newspaper involved with that was Press Citizen. You would go to their papper online and click on the forum link and that would then open "Hawk Forum". They eventually shut that forum down. Ironically even though it was shut down I was able to go to my computer history and open the old forum chats. You could even continue to make comments there and start new threads. I even started a new thread called "Is anyone else here besides me?" No one replied so I guess they didn't know you could "backdoor" the forum like that.

I communicated with the Forum manager over there by private messages, but I never knew what his name was. More than once we got a good laugh as we traded comment's about how the forum was around for about six or seven years and how that some of the posters acted like they were six or seven years old, lol.

There are a few carry overs on here that carried over very similar names. One female poster was known as "Iowa lonely" and she had quite a personality and was known for her regular outburst of "Whaaa whoooo!" I never saw her name again on any other forum boards.

What led to the downfall is that the site got overrun with spam, and the powers-that-be decided that it wasn't worth the time/expense to fix the issue. IIRC, Todd Worley had left a few months earlier as the moderator, and The Press Citizen struggled to find a replacement. Todd was a first-class guy. The combination of the spam and difficulty finding a moderator was the final blow.

There was a longtime somewhat feckless poster that had changed his screen name to kevinkunnert a couple of years before the site went down. I don't recall what his screen name was prior, but I had to give him credit. He definitely went down with the ship. After 99% of posters had finally bailed due to the spam, I checked a few weeks later and he literally was the only poster in a sea of spam. It was funny and sad at the same time.

I remember the poster kevinkunnert. There was also a couple of guys on there that lived out in Colorado. I got caught up in a scam that was directed towards a boy with cancer. Kirk and his entire coaching staff signed a football, and it was sent to my home address in Georgia. That was around Kirk's fifth or sixth year if I remember correctly. I was tempted to just keep it after a while because I wasn't getting any info from anyone after I got the signed football. I actually looked at my six-year-old son who had suffered a massive stroke, and I thought about just giving it to him. Then finally I received a letter telling my where to send the ball to. I was told the kid was in a Geogia hospital. I thought ok I will reach out to his doctor and just take the ball over to the kid. Ironically, I was never given the name of the doctor or the little boy. Another one of the forum posters sent me a private message saying he had heard the whole thing was a scam for someone to have a football signed my Kirk and all of his assistants at that time.

I know that is totally illegal and wish I had kept the mailing address to where I sent the football too.

Back to the portal, I know that Ben had said recently that he plans on adding a couple more recruits. I think he needs one more BIG at the center position. I mean 6'9" guys are ok if they are very athletic, but what happens if they foul out............ yikes!!! The freshmen who flipped from UNI is tall and big enough, but likely will have a lot to learn his first two years.
