Every game we win is like another rung on a ladder to nowhere

Umm...we did have a bit over 100 yards rushing. And, I think we had around 80 yards on two screen passes, i.e., some passes are really runs. And, when Iowa rushes for 100+ yards they have a fantastic winning percentage.

I just love these guys who think that if Iowa does not win a BT championship, the season is not worth watching. Or, even if we end up a very competitive second place in the west and go to a big time bowl game, we are a miserable failure. Why do these clowns even invest the time to keep track of Iowa sports?

See you in Bloomington next week.
Some of these so called Hawk fans are sounding like a pathetic entitled fusker fan. My goodness has it really come to all or nothing? We have 12win season and it's got to be the norm. I would like to do that every year but it's just not in the cards. Not even the great and powerful Bucks can pull it off.

Not playing 4 of the top 5 schools on a regular basis does not help us when we need to play the big game. We finally get a crossover game to even the schedule up a little and we get Rutgers, one of the worst teams in college football. For us to beat the good schools for a special season we can't play cupcakes all the time and expect to beat the top teams. We will have a 10+ win season this year and get drilled in a bowl game.

I’m convinced that we may never win the B1G again. Once every few years we have a cakewalk schedule that should guarantee winning the West with a win over Wisconsin. When we have the schedule and team to do that and we lose to Wisconsin that goal is all but gone. That being said a 3 loss season is likely now and that would get us a nice bowl. If we can’t limit it to 3 losses then I would agree that this season was a disaster. I’m looking forward to the Wisconsin game moving to the last game of the year in place of Nebraska. At least our chance of winning the West will last longer then.
I would love to see the Wisconsin game moved to Black Friday. Some teams improve as the season goes on and we are usually one of them. So was Michigan State University under George Perles in the 1980's. And it was a tremendous break for us to get that game out of the way early in our conference season for a while. You did not want to play Perles in November.

I'm having trouble following your logic in other parts of your post. You say our schedule all but guarantees winning the west with a win over Wisconsin then say a 3 loss season is now likely. Did that Wisconsin game count as 3 losses? Or are you insuinating that as much wind was taken out of the team's sails as was the fans'? Just trying to follow along here. We could easily have beat Wisconsin and still have ended up losing to Penn State and an outlier. We'll just never know now.

I'm also trying to remember our history of Conference championships. There was an outright in 1985 and a handful of co-champions and....um....not much. Yet you have hung in as an Iowa fan up to this point just fine.

We may end up improving more this year than any other year and end up going down as nothing but a huge disappointment in the eyes of many. All because of the Wisconsin. Look at how much Brandon Smith has improved since the Northern Illinois game. And he's not alone. Amani Hooker, are you kidding?

An 8+ win season this year and KF will have coached Iowa to 5 seasons of 8+ wins in the past 6 seasons. Not tremendous but not the 7-5 everyone assumes as our common record. Its not impossible to go 11-2 with a bowl win for 54 wins over the past 6 seasons and a 9-win avg. It hasnt happened yet, but i predict a very good season next year as well. I say we will avg 9 wins a season over KF's last 7 seasons (ending 2019).

Hookers are like wine they get better with....wait...Hookers and wine.....no....uh...what were we saying?

my stance is that giving away the WUs game means we are (likely) already out of the running to win the West and make it to the B1G Championship game. We still need to go to PSU. My preseason was that we should beat WUs and our only loss on the schedule would be @PSU. If we do lose to PSU, that means WUs would have to lose 3 B1G games for us to make it to the B1G Championship game. So...to me, that makes the title of this post "...one more rung to a ladder to nowhere" is valid. We lost the West by giving away the first game of the B1G season. Sure, we can still reach 10 wins and that would be a good win total season. but, it would also be an under performing season. That's been my biggest gripe with Ferentz and Iowa fans keep focusing on the 10 wins and not what wasn't reached.
We would deserve the big ten championship game with 2 losses, assuming Wisconsin has to lose 3? That would look good? What would look good is to win out, get a huge win over Penn State, Wisconsin loses twice and we earn our way in. If we also lose to Penn State we dont deserve it. If we win out and Wisconsin wins out or loses once, i'll take 11-1 and a great bowl. And then expect more next year. This team wasnt quite mature enough to handle Wisconsin to the end. We will see where we go from here through 2019.

I’ve just been a fan long enough to know what to expect. I do think the Wisconsin loss took away some of the mojo. Hopefully they can get it back.

This week will tell us a lot. I guarantee you've been a fan long enough to know that Indiana has always been a tough place for us to play. And we're a walking MASH unit right now.

I brought up this question in a previous post. If three or four teams tie for the West do head to head games go out the window? I thought that round robin records between the tied teams might come into play. Anyone know?

You got a point, 7-5 is not the new normal.

8-5 is the new normal!

1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.
2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division.
3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, 6, and 7).
4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.
5. The highest ranked team in the first College Football Playoff poll following the completion of Big Ten regular season conference play shall be the representative in the Big Ten Championship Game, unless the two highest ranked tied teams are ranked within one spot of each other in the College Football Playoff poll. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the Big Ten Championship Game.
6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative.
7. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

Head to head if of the three teams, two both beat the third, but subsequently lost two other games apiece. If all beat lost one game in the mix of 3, all to one of the other....who ya got..northwestern?

If we win 11 games, that would be a great season in what honestly should have been a rebuilding year. But NW is starting to look salty, and Purdue is dangerous if we have a bad day getting to the qb. I think PSU is a sure loss.

So I still think 8 - 4. Granted, one of my teams beating us has changed, but the outcome is still the same. I don't think it's a ladder to nowhere though. With the improvement our secondary, lbs, and wrs have shown, next year should be really special.

anything above 8 wins is a great season at Iowa? Why? It's only eclipsed that # 13 times in school history. That's 119 years of football folks. This team still has potential to be an all time great.
