ADAM RITTENBERG'S PROPOSAL

East division: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Michigan State, Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland

West division: Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, Purdue

BRIAN BENNETT'S PROPOSAL

East: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers, Purdue, Indiana

West: Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern

Read the entire article...thank you for the link. Very interesting stuff. Of course, we all like to read stuff we agree with! I am all in on Rittenberg's proposal. You could have also mentioned the comment from AR, which, paraphrased, is that Iowa is not far from becoming a league power. Go Hawks!

In what? Debate club or Intramural tiddle winks?

I'm down with either of those, but Bennett is a douchenozzle, so I'm going with Rittenberg on principal.

I like either, but I think Michigan is going to be in Iowa's division opposite of OSU. It's just going to happen. Delaney wants the UM/OSU B10 championship game. However, if they were in the same division you get a playoff for the champ game the last week of the season, so I'd prefer that, though I don't think it willhappen.

Fixed it for them. I think Michigan/OSU will be kept separate as well. But who cares, those other 2 schools would be back on our schedule. Also, sets up Nebraska and Wisky match-ups.

both of them already had Wisky in the west

Any realignment that puts OSU and UM in the same division is JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Why won't anyone get real with this?

Not true. Things have changed. The momentum is there for geography and rivalries to play the most important roles. Nobody really wants to see Michigan and Ohio State play in back to back weeks, which thankfully hasn't happened so far. I think the Big Ten realizes it was a mistake to separate them and to separate the Iowa/Minny/Nebraska/Wisconsin block. Now they have a chance to correct that and will.

The BoneG realizes what OSU and UM want it to realize. They don't care if they play each other in back to back games. It's all money. The OSU/UM in the same division idea is perpetuated by the scared fanbases of the lesser schools that know that 7/10 (possibly more) years OSU and UM are going to win their respective divisions and their teams "aren't going to get a chance". The BoneG doesn't give a crap about Iowa, NW, Indy, or Purdue, that's just the way it is. They only give a small crap about Minny and Wisky, and only a slightly larger crap about Nebby and PSU. When the new schools come in they will also be tossed to the bottom level and get a nice card with a big fat check that says, "Thanks for the TV sets".

I think they are going to put Michigan in with OSU ... I think it's a done deal

Probably leaning toward Bennett's version, and trying to appease MSU

the good news for Sparty is that this is temporary, because you know they are going to 16

I also think we end up with Bennetts proposal. MSU still gets Michigan, but stays away from OSU. The East becomes a two team division for the next few years, with PSU on the sideline. By then, it goes to 16 and maybe they add UVA and UNC to the east, with PU to the West.

OSU,Mich,PSU,Rutgers,Md,UNC,UVA, IU.

Iowa,Neb,Minny,Wis,NW,Ill,MSU,PU

nah, whenever they get around to adding UVA and UNC, they'll move MSU east and IU and PU west ...
... or they'll go with the long-suspected 4-division/pod idea

I hear it is North/South
North: Minny, Nebby, Wisky, Iowa, NW, Mich, MSU,
South: Ill, Indy, OSU, PSU, Rutgers, MD, PU

Not really, but if we are pulling ideas out of our *****

Michigan and OSU in the same division not going to happen. It's all about conference bragging rights now, and the money that comes from that. The biggest brag is the nat'l championship. The best chance for the Big Ten is with Mich and OSU. Need to maximize that chance by maximizing the opportunity for both of them to be in the B1G championship game. Delaney will always (and rightly so) lean toward those two powers when given the chance.

I think it dilutes the significance of the OSU-Michigan game if they can potentially play each other twice - makes the regular season game less meaningful unless it's a must win for either to get to the championship game.

More of the same thing is not always a good thing. I think the same is true here. But Delany's evaluation is purely dealing with the bottom line, everything else he talks about is just a pretense to making a lot of money. While he's been part of some good things for the conference, expansion and realignment are not some of those good things.

This is where this thought process is flawed, less meaningful? Possibly. Less profitable? No. Here is the correct thought process on this matter:

1)$$$$
2)$$$$
3)$$$$
4)$$$$
5)$$$$

The exact opposite of this is true.
