ESPN weighs in with their upset pick of the week.

Doesn't the home team usually get 3 points when the lines come out (general rule or thumb?)? Wouldn't that make this game a push, and the upset call not really an upset?

Kinnick is said to get 4 points, although I dont see that anymore.

It would be an upset in Kinnick if what you are saying is true. Neutral field? Probably not so much.

Any time the MAC beats the B1G, it's an upset. Or should be, anyway. In Iowa City we just say "that's football."

no, it's an away game for NIU - can't take that away, and is why it's factored in on the line. if iowa is favored by 3, then it is an upset if NIU wins. i agree with your thought if it is on a neutral field - then yes, push is likely the line.

A winner in a game with a 3 point spread is no "upset" winner. That is like Deace calling ties wins.....its bullsh!t
You know, I've read so many of your posts over the past several months. Are you an ACLU lawyer? I mean, when a team is favored over another and they lose, that's the definition of an upset.

The fact that our program has fallen so low that our fanbase is reduced to arguing whether or not it should be considered an upset if we lose to a MAC team? Yeah, I get it.

It does suck that the MAC team coming to town can beat us, but it is a fact that they can. That doesn't mean anyone happy about it, but it is what it is.

i just don't feel like this game is much of an upset if NIU wins. i mean, i will be upset, but in the general meaning of the word, i don't find it too much of an upset. a 12-2 orange bowl appearing team beating a 4-8 team on a 6 game losing streak...i know that's last season, but he's not reaching very far here IMO.

That is just flat out dumb. So if someone is a 1 pt underdog, you consider that an "upset"? I have seen you say a ton of stupid crap on this forum for months now, but this one takes the cake. You have to be at least a 7 to 10 point underdog to even start the discussion of "upset win"
