ESPN has Iowa's Recruiting Class Ranked 9th in the Big 10

247 has them 7th which is in line with their finish this season. ESPN is notoriously bad with recruiting.

I'm not too upset. The coaches that caused this are gone and I like how this class shapes up except WR. We need to target WR heavy this year.

Yet I think most recruiting outfits have us ahead of Wisky... How those that try to differentiate between the 30th-50th ranked classes is beyond me. It's a crap shoot. If your at one of those camps do you think you can tell the difference between the 32nd best right guard and the 44th? Granted it's easy to look at AJ Epenesa and say that dude is a stud. But for a bunch of the other kids it's just a time will tell scenario. KF can't sit there and say that he knew for a fact Gallery was going to turn into a stud. Or that Yanda would have.. The same way he hoped that Jake Christiansen was bound for greatness till he couldn't throw a pass to a RB in the flat... I like the class overall. Martin could have really topped it off. I don't think losing Eno affects a thing the two RBs coming look pretty solid to me.

I think its silly to expect Iowa to out-recruit Ohio State, Michigan or a probation-free Penn State. So the absolute best I could ever see them doing is 4th in big ten recruiting rankings. Similarly, I don't expect Iowa to out-recruit Nebraska or Michigan State very often either. Its the reality of the Big ten thanks to a variety of factors (recent success, physical location, historical tradition, NFL players, etc).

So, yeah, that's 5 teams I expect to out-recruit Iowa basically every single year, and that has exactly nothing to do with Kirk Ferentz. So for them to be 7th in the rankings means they did pretty good, relatively. If you're a realistic person who understands the kind of program being run at Iowa, you should be fine with that.

According to 247, the Big Ten as a whole netted eight 5-star recruits. Iowa got one of them...Ohio State and Michigan got the rest of them

What really shocked me this year was Maryland. 9 4-star recruits? That's really impressive.

So how many 5 star recruits are there anyway, total I mean? Yeah, I could look it up but.............................

They can out recruit MSU, and Wisconsin.

Although recruiting rankings do matter (see: Alabama, USC, fOSU) it's also true that Iowa's greatest studs traditionally haven't even been on the radar.

Wisconsin, absolutely, which is why I didn't list them. Iowa beat them this year even.

Michigan State I'm not so sure about. They recruit heavily out of their own state as well as next-door neighbor, Ohio. Iowa just doesn't have that luxury.

Yeah I think they have a lot of people wondering what's the deal there... Almost smells fishy.

247 has a total of 32 five-star recruits this year. So the big ten got 1/4th of them which is probably really good.

AJ was ranked 6th overall in the country.

Let's wait and see how they all perform, wish we could find out who our new coaches are.We need someone that can teach our guys to get open.
