"Espn greatest 150 coaches list'

Wow , way too much for Barry. He coached at a total blue blood program so didnt even have to work to get talent there. Then you bring up the pros and he coached at one of the top nfl teams so again didnt have to do too much. I saw him make some bone head in game coaching decisions when he was at the cowboys.
He was an excellent big game coach, at least at the college level. Hence the .662 winning % against top 25 teams. Like the article says, he may have forced Royal out of Texas prematurely and who knows about Broyles at Arkansas, though Frank had his eye on the AD position.

Osborne also walked into a nice situation as he had the path to success paved by Bob Devaney. I think Jimmy Johnson is low on the list too, but his short career probably had something to do with that. He had a pretty good second career however as a NASCAR driver.:)

Cant add anything about KF as his 8-4 avg taking over a team that was down for only a year is not a huge accomplishment but steady coaching.

Finally, somebody has it right. Thank you! I'm sick of hearing how KFz took over a program that was in terrible shape. All it was missing was a couple of good recruiting classes...all the other pieces were in place.

I remember all the love KF was getting in the early years, this College program and that NFL team were interested, you know, that sort of media love. Being a hot coach is like a flavor of the week. Cake is cake, no matter what kind of "Frost" you put on it (sorry, couldn't resist.....) I agree Fry is too low though. His legacy alone puts him in top 50 at least.

Osborn was truly great at ignoring steroid use and the criminal activities of star players.
"Coach Osborn, do you think you would be more concerned about these alleged sexual attacks by your players if the females who were attacked were your daughters?"

Bierman from Minnesota wins 5 National Championships in 8 years and is ranked 65. I call bullshit. Heavy SEC bias, heavy modern day bias.

Former Iowa Head Football Coach Forest Evashevski is no where to be found on this fake list. And yet most of his teams finished in the AP top 10. How many of these dud coaches can say that?

Barry Switzer deserves to be higher than 13th, and definitely deserves to be higher than Tom Osborne.

He also has a super bowl ring. Perhaps his relatively short head coaching career, and snaky reputation, worked against him. Nobody, NOBODY, was a better recruiter than Barry Switzer.
Good coach?Yes, but I agree with you that Switzer was a helluva recruiter. so much that the incredible athletic talent he brought to Norman often overshadowed his average at best coaching skills IMO. Had to have been pretty easy to recruit to a program and campus "back in the day" where there were no rules, no cell phones for proof and players did whatever they wanted to do, went to class only if they wanted to and all without consequences knowing their were untouchable.
Oklahoma was basically the Miami Hurricanes of the Midwest back then. Crazy times.

I guess someone had to have their name attached to all those wins.

He strength was recruiting, no question about it. Like Al McGuire, he let X and O people handle what he couldn't. In Barry's case he let defensive coaches handle the defense. Like Al his greatest actual coaching strength was as a motivator. And like Al someone's name had to be associated with those wins and championships. They don't credit that stuff to the assistant coaches.

Bet Nebby would take 8-4 lol
