Erik Campbell Leaving Iowa

This is what I don't get. Why would extremely gifted and speedy wide receivers suddenly flock to Iowa because Brian Ferentz is recruiting them instead of Erik Campbell?
BF never played WR, he has never coached wide receivers who have played in the NFL or coach any wide receivers for that matter.
The reason we don't have gifted and speedy wide receivers is because BF's dad, Kirk Ferentz, runs one of the most conservative offenses in college football. It doesn't matter who the offensive coordinator happens to be. How is Brian Ferentz going to convince these guys to come here? He shares the same last name. Ferentz.
What is his selling point going to be?
1. In 14 years my headcoachdad has never coached a QB who has taken a snap in the NFL.
2. In 14 years my headcoachdad has never recruited a WIDE RECEIVER who has caught a single pass in the NFL.
Is KF proactive or merely reactive in personnel matters? He doesn't have a great deal of experience in making coaching changes. We will see how this works but not sure what is going on to be honest.

This is not a bad thing, Iowa has needed some overhaul of the staff and have needed it for a while, things become stagnant and it appears this has happened at Iowa.
Brian Ferentz is doing the job he needs to do, the infusion of his youth on the staff is a good thing. I think Iowa is getting a steal with the younger Ferentz before anyone else had a chance to get him.

It was definitely Soup's fault that Iowa's offense was so bad this year, not Greg Davis'.
Two of the most prolific WRs in Iowa history played under Soup.
So he's gone. Makes sense. Iowa Football.

Why would soup leave without having a job (as far as we know)?
The answer is probably Greg Davis and his amazing offensive system. I could coach a wr to run 2 yards and run out of bounds

Don't really get this one from what has been written. This may be a down period for WR, but just because the coaching staff places a "high priority" on a kid shouldn't and can't directly mean there is "some concern" about the players already on campus unless you know something that isn't directly stated here? If he's a high priority target, great... you should put that much effort into him.

The overhaul Iowa needs, is not at an assistant coaching position (Greg Davis excepted).

So was he fired? Asked to resign? Won the lottery? Do we even know at this point?
If this was some sort of scapegoating for the disastrous offensive showing in '12 then "The Greg Davis System" better set records next year.

Early last month someone posted that they might have heard that Erb, Campbell and the DB's coach were asked to seek out other employment.
Ferentz hasn't fired anyone publicly that I can remember.

Let's not pretend this is a good thing. It may be what KF wants, but Soup is a good WR coach. I can't speak one way or the other about his recruiting skills. The rumor is that was his biggest down fall.
Could you argue he wasn't a good fit for the Iowa system? Meh.... I don't buy it. Iowa was ecstatic to have him come over from Michigan. It's not like he turned into a dog crap coach while he was here.
I wish Erik the best and hope he doesn't land with a program the we have to face a lot.

Steve Spurrier would agree, his philosophy is don't stay over 10 years...that was his reason for giving the NFL a shot, I am sure his ego had nothing to do with trying the NFL.
Maybe he would have been a great fit in the KOK offense after all he did have DJK and McNutt but maybe not the GD. He wasn't developing the youth on this team, he might have needed more time. Doesn't look like he is going to get a chance now.

Fair enough, but by that logic why does Soup only get one year to learn GD offense before getting kicked to the curb? Shouldn't GD get the boot since he couldn't teach the QB to learn HIS offensive system within one year?
The person who told me Soup was leaving a month ago or so thought it was Soups decision to leave. This is speculation on his part, not 100% confirmed, but he thought Soup was not happy with GD coming back as OC again.
Not sure if he didn't like GD himself, or his scheme or just disappointed he didn't get the OC position

I can't think of too many cases where major assistant merry-go-rounds helped turn things around. Actually can't think of any.
I think i mentioned as much detail about my source as i can when i first put on here that Soup was leaving. I have a very close relative who is involved with the fb program on a daily basis. Really can't get much more detailed then that, sorry.
