Erik Campbell Leaving Iowa

stars in recruiting doesn't mean squat when looking at NFL WR. take a quick look around and see where everyone played their college ball. all those 5* that played for Texas, USC, ND where are they in the NFL? how about texas tech, northern colorado, umass, central florida....

it really is about developing talent and finding late bloomers. which apparently is KF's claim to fame. but, it is obvious that he can't do that at any skill position. even umass has a WR (cruz) playing in the NFL. odds are that iowa should to, with 14 years coaching, just out of sheer luck.

This pretty much says it all. I wished I could bend KF's ear for about 5 min. I think he may be surprised at what "just a fan" has to say AND suggest.

i've got a little time now, so here's a breakdown

calvin johnson - georgia tech
larry fitz - pitt
vic cruz - umass
wes welker - texas tech
mike wallace - mississippi
reggie wayne and andre johnson - miami
roddy white - UAB
hakeem nicks - UNC
greg jennings - w mich
brandon marshall - central florida
steve smith - utah
vincent jackson - n colorado
aj green - georgia
jordy nelson - k-state

anyway. there's a quick list, i'm sure i forgot someone. the point isn't that recruiting doesn't matter. a few of these guys were stars coming out of HS. but most obviously weren't. that we have no NFL WR after 14 years is actually kind of amazing. you almost have to try to not develop guys. you'd think out of sheer luck that there would be one.

actually, off the top of my head, you could do this probably for RB too.

soup may or may not have been a good WR coach, but you can't blame all 14 years on him. Erb was the WR coach before him, and now is RB, so why doesn't he get more criticism? maybe it's that we don't, and never really have put much emphasis on developing that position or the skill positions in general. same goes for QB. we sure put the emphasis on line play, and that has really shown.

sorry for the long, rambling rant. i hope some of that makes sense to someone.
