Eno Benjamin: The One That Got Away

Why do people always bring up recruits that don’t come here or players that transfer? It happens everywhere, just look at Oklahoma St who lost that WR last week. 5* QB transfers from Clemson. I mean 5-10 kids leave nearly every program for one reason or another each year.

Eno would run circles around our backs. I get it that it was Oregon State but seriously we put up weak rushing numbers against 3 cupcakes this year. We don’t have a homerun back like Eno.

This one is different because the Iowa staff’s lack of communication cost us a great back. I agree though, when it comes to guys like Willies I could care less.

Much of the blame falls on the guy at the top, Kirk. His arcane rule prohibiting recruits from taking all of the visits the NCAA allows once they've committed has rubbed more than one kid the wrong way. It was on the Head Coach to talk to Eno and clear up the situation, not the random position coaches who have no pull with the program.

Eno now has eclipsed 200 yards early in the 3rd quarter.

As for Willies, he currently plays for the Cleveland Browns. Would have been fun to see what he could do in black and gold as well.
Indeed Yup! But the HC likes a certain type of Player
He is soooo much less flexible each day huh? Go Tough Hawks...

I do think the whole thing was a cluster ****. Can’t have coaches acting less mature than the recruits that are still in HS. That said, Eno was “committed” to Iowa, but was continuing to take visits. It was no sure thing he was gonna be a Hawk even if the fallout didn’t happen

I'm all for sour grapes when it's appropriate, but to denigrate a guy running for over 300 yards because he did so against a Pac 12 opponent is laughable. Oregon State isn't good, they are an equivalent of a 1 win Iowa State. Toren Young led the Hawks against the Clowns with 68 yards. Eno had more than that halfway through the first quarter.

The worst part about this is that Eno wanted to be a Hawk as much as any recruit in recent memory. He touted the Hawks from the rooftops and single handedly recruited other blue chip Texas recruits better than any million dollar Hawkeye assistant was capable of doing. For Kirk to botch the handling of Eno and the 3 or 4 other Texas recruits that we lost due to his mishandling caused a ripple effect that we will continue to feel for the next two years.

Another thread about this? This is Oregon State. Ya he’s good but I like what we have going as well, Oregon State is gash

Eno was only averaging 4 ypc going into the game. Oregon State is ranked 111. That’s 20 spots worse than Kansas at 91 and 35 spots worse than UNI. It’s way worse than Iowa State. Let’s not anoint him the next Barry Sanders just yet. Well, you can but I’m not.

<<For Kirk to botch the handling of Eno...>>

Kirk didn't botch the handling of Eno. White and Kennedy lied, and Eno did CYA after the fact.

So much so that he took visits elsewhere. And notice that the other recruits didn't all follow him to ASU.

Eno is good and I would have loved for him to be a Hawkeye, but 300 yards against Oregon State is like 150 yards against a normal team. We have 3 RB's who could put up 150 if they got all of the carries.

ASU doesn’t run the ball so that stat is misleading. I have watched all of ASU’s games and even in the games where Eno doesn’t get many carries you can tell he is special. If Iowa played Oregon State we would struggle to score and have 150 yards between 3 backs like we do against most cupcakes. Eno would have been the talk of the B1G at Iowa.

No, just no. This is completely ridiculous. Oregon State is terrible. Iowa would have no trouble scoring against them. Some of you are such fucking drama queens.

No, he tries to portray Eno as doing something wrong. A lot of these recruits don't know about the no visit policy before they commit. They aren't informed about it until they receive the official offer letter, which is often after they commit, as it was in this case. Multiple Texas recruits spoke about this when this whole thing went down.
He didn't put in Eno. He put it on the coaches. And if Eno was so confused, how did he know to call the coaches? Asking for a friend.

There’s not a team in D1 football who I can guarantee our juggernaut offense can put up points or yards on. Too inconsistent. Who knows what offense BF calls that day.

If you think Eno (and other recruits that bailed after) wouldn’t have helped this team, I couldn’t disagree more.

Stop with the Eno Benjamin threads. It's ridiculous. We have good running backs. He would have been behind Wadley and Butler last year. He's no savior because he ran all over a terrible defensive team. Give me a break.

Here another stat for you. ENO BENJAMIN HAD 27 YARDS IN 13 CARRIES AGAINST MICHIGAN STATE!!!!!

When he played against a real defense...gee...how'd that work out. The Great Eno Benjamin...2.1 yards a carry.

Dear god. Did you watch that game? None of their running backs had anywhere to go. They had 44 total yards rushing, 380 yards passing. Eno had 6 receptions for 54 yards. smh
