Eno Benjamin: The One That Got Away

The sophomore former Iowa commit already has 185 yards rushing, 30 yards receiving, and 3 touchdowns for ASU...in the FIRST HALF tonight. The guy is a stud and would have been a real difference maker for the Hawks this year and in the years to come.

Much of the blame falls on the guy at the top, Kirk. His arcane rule prohibiting recruits from taking all of the visits the NCAA allows once they've committed has rubbed more than one kid the wrong way. It was on the Head Coach to talk to Eno and clear up the situation, not the random position coaches who have no pull with the program.

Eno now has eclipsed 200 yards early in the 3rd quarter.

As for Willies, he currently plays for the Cleveland Browns. Would have been fun to see what he could do in black and gold as well.

Ultimately you're correct, but those two guys were telling Eno one thing and telling Kirk something else.

This has been covered.

Should have bought Apple stock in '85 too.

Eno goes for 300+ yards but the Oregon State RB goes for 254 yards to. Strange game, not much defense on either side.

Another thread about this? This is Oregon State. Ya he’s good but I like what we have going as well, Oregon State is gash

Derrick Wilies might have been the biggest loss. We probably could have used him in 2015 against MSU and 2016. Not sure what year he graduated.

Had he stayed the full 5 years he would have been a RS Sr in 2017.

However people need to remember DW just didn’t work at all to understand the playbook. If you have the recording of the Purdue game in 2014 you can see it. You can see pre-snap where KMM is literally telling DW what to do on the line of scrimmage. At one point CJ was tearing into to him at the goal line. That game was pretty much the end of the line for him at Iowa.

2014 was his 2nd year on campus. It was also the 2nd year on campus for MVB who wasn’t even supposed to play in 2013 but he moved ahead of DW because he actually knew the plays.

I’ve been critical of KF but this was not his fault. DW was a dipshit and still is. Watch Hard Knocks. Todd Haley lit into him as well

Eno was a huge loss. We all knew it at the time. Most of us just moved on because it is hard to imagine that losing 1 RB recruit would sink our ship. One of the few positions that I give our staff the benefit of doubt to produce a quality starter year after year. AIRBAG and Weisman are really the only 2 deviations from reloading at RB that I can remember. That said Weisman wasn't even that bad. Even with the lack of traditional RB speed and agility Mark was actually a fairly productive RB for Iowa. I sure wouldn't mind to have a Mark Weisman right now so we could actually run some up the gut in 4th and short and goalline situations.

Kirk is the winningest coach in Iowa history.

He has the program ahead of Wisconsin.

He makes citizens, doesn't focus on winning games.

If he is coach, his family members are part of it, package.

He keeps game close and coaches (and schedules) to avoid 5-7 seasons.

He is creative, doesn't allow top recruits to visit other colleges once they give a verbal.

His off tackle runs and QB sneaks vs a stacked defense are examined by other programs throughout the country.

His signature during in game coaching is the delay of game, with puzzled look.

He uses recycled pencils, the first of the "green" coaches.

After big wins he cries, after big losses he blames fans and players who have failed and made "bone head" plays.

Toren Young is big, fast enough and acceleration is the key in short yardage with maybe the ability to make a small move to the side.

Toren Young with a fullback and a decent OFF line push should get a yard.

I fear we may end up under utilizing Young.. So far I think we are.

Of course Eno is good. He was a 4 star highly thought of recruit it's why we wanted him so bad to start with. Oregon St sucks balls and ASU and Eno took advantage of the perfect storm. Is Eno going to be the next Barry Sanders of college football? Not unless they schedule Oregon St 10 more times a year he's not. Good for him he had a huge day. But I think it's the first one he's had so let's see how the rest of his career plays out. Still really early for him yet and I like the guys we currently have too
