Embarrassed to be a Hawkeye fan...

Wow, I’m actually embarrassed to be a hawkeye fan. No, not because of the team’s performance on saturday. Because of the general lack of objectivity in this fan base. Especially on the offensive side of the ball. On saturday we saw a night and day difference from last year’s offensive philosophy. Anyone that can’t see that is either blinded by their own hate of Ferentz or just plain crazy.

For years and years we’ve knocked Ferentz for not taking shots downfield or going for the kill shot. We saw that on multiple occasions on Saturday.

For years and years we’ve relentlessly screamed at Ferentz for not spreading the ball to more than one running back. We saw three play saturday.

For years we’ve been furious that Ferentz hasn’t used an uptempo scheme when it makes sense. We saw a no huddle (and even hurry up) approach all day long.

For years we’ve been tired of Ferentz not trusting or empowering his offensive players to make plays when the game tied with minutes left. We saw Iowa throw the ball in a tie with 1:20 left.

Sure this loss stings and it sucks to come out with the short stick again.

The fact is, if these changes were coming from a new head coach, all you hacks out there would be excited for the future regardless of a W or L. Take a step back, open your freakin’ eyes and stop whining for the conservative play call on a third and short. That didn’t win or lose the game for us. We saw a TON of positive things on saturday.

Mark my words, we’re in for a wild ride this season and at the end of the year the tone of this fan base will be changed for the better.

iowa tavern hok fan is spoiled. even when the team is winning, they biatch and moan because it wasn't good enough.

you are right on the mark with your analysis, as well.

What the hell is going on around here....do people just wanna get abused by the fan base?

Kirk showed trickery. He showed us fun football then tricked us that it would stick around in the 2nd half. Well played Krik

Don't worry, it's not the Hawkeye fanbase. It's approximately 15 posters on a message board. Good analysis, by the way.

If not for tavern hok fan, how full do you suppose the stdium would be on Saturdays?

Impossible to argue against most of that for me. However the play calling in the 2nd half wasn't good regardless. 3rd and 1 you can take that deep shot when your around midfield just so long as you have the guts to go for it on 4th if you don't get it. I have no beef with change of style of play. I thought the 1st half was great actually. Had them right where we wanted them to be able to run them into the ground in the 2nd half and that wasn't a time to be tinkering with the play calling. Iowa had the Oline Rbs TEs to finish them off and burn the clock but thats not what they had in mind. The 4th q shouldn't be used for experimenting and trying to outguess the D. I see your overall point that most of the fan base has gone nuts and it was a predictable thing after everything. It's quite the snowball with current losing streak, the polarization of the coach and overall state of the program all being where it is. Until Iowa wins a big game (define that how you will) and gets to a bowl game better then a toilet bowl this fan base will be pretty on tilt for awhile.. I can see the big picture and I'm not against the overall shift Ferentz is trying to get the team to go. Because obviously it's (being the new system) still really new and they have a qb taking his first snaps. Nobody was hyping Rudock to be as good as FSUs kid for peats sake as nice as that'd be.

Excellent post. I could not agree more. There were a lot of things to get excited about last Saturday. Hopefully this Saturday we will see even more things to get excited about, PLUS A VICTORY.

98% of the Iowa fan base is excited about this team. Do not be deceived by posts on this board. This is the "lunatic fringe" and should be ignored, for the most part

Sir, I'll have to ask you to refrain from such positive thinking.

I'm embarrassed to be a hawk fan too. But it's for different reasons.

1. 7 game losing streak for the #7 longest losing streak.
2. Losing to a MAC team
3. Stupid play calling
4. Kirk Ferentz
