Wow, I’m actually embarrassed to be a hawkeye fan. No, not because of the team’s performance on saturday. Because of the general lack of objectivity in this fan base. Especially on the offensive side of the ball. On saturday we saw a night and day difference from last year’s offensive philosophy. Anyone that can’t see that is either blinded by their own hate of Ferentz or just plain crazy.
For years and years we’ve knocked Ferentz for not taking shots downfield or going for the kill shot. We saw that on multiple occasions on Saturday.
For years and years we’ve relentlessly screamed at Ferentz for not spreading the ball to more than one running back. We saw three play saturday.
For years we’ve been furious that Ferentz hasn’t used an uptempo scheme when it makes sense. We saw a no huddle (and even hurry up) approach all day long.
For years we’ve been tired of Ferentz not trusting or empowering his offensive players to make plays when the game tied with minutes left. We saw Iowa throw the ball in a tie with 1:20 left.
Sure this loss stings and it sucks to come out with the short stick again.
The fact is, if these changes were coming from a new head coach, all you hacks out there would be excited for the future regardless of a W or L. Take a step back, open your freakin’ eyes and stop whining for the conservative play call on a third and short. That didn’t win or lose the game for us. We saw a TON of positive things on saturday.
Mark my words, we’re in for a wild ride this season and at the end of the year the tone of this fan base will be changed for the better.
