Duke Vitale

I may be in the minority here, but Dickie V has ruined his last game for me. I can no longer listen to him, Unfortunately, ESPN still believes he is their top color guy and plops him down in a lot of big games which I am forced to watch with the sound down, or not at all. He has become a caricature of himself, emphasizing all the traits of his that I despise the most.

Agree. At one time I thought Dookie was fun to listen to, and somewhat interesting. No more. His act wore itself out long ago.

I quit listening to him after he reneged on his promise to stand on his head on national t.v. if someone (Duke?) lost an upcoming game.

I have never liked Vitale. To me, he represents all that is wrong with college basketball. Now don't get me wrong, I think college basketball is overall a good product, but Dickie's hyperbole is always focused on items I feel detract from that quality.

Vitale is not a color announcer. He's an over the top play-by-play man that doesn't do his homework, and is cast as a color announcer. He gives you next to nothing in terms of explaining the "behind the scenes" stuff of a play, or what needs to be done by a team. And he's blatantly biased in favor of Duke and the ACC in general.

Gus Johnson is not over the top. He's not biased. He's got great passion for the game. And he does his homework: the info that he absorbs and uses is outstanding. He seemed to know every detail of Jarryd Cole's rollercoaster of a career, and he'd done how many Iowa games before this year? And, most importantly, he knows his role. He doesn't step on his color man's toes, he says his piece and lets the color guy say his. That's what puts Johnson head and shoulders above everyone else, IMO.

Completly False. Johnson was absolutely terrible last night. He was a good announcer two years ago but now he's hard to listen to. You don't need to scream because somebody made a three to cut the lead to ten, you can't manufacture drama like he tries to do now.

I also agree that at one point in my life I thought he brought a lot of energy and fun into the game, but now I can't stand to listen to him. I thought maybe it was my getting older, but I see now I'm certainly not alone.

Vitale was pretty good about 20 years ago...seriously. Gus could tone things down once in awhile or he's in danger of becoming DV 2.0. He's a long way off but it's a slippery slope.

I'll rephrase: he's over the top, but he actually brings something to the table besides just his personality, unlike Vitale at this point.

The only coach I have ever hear Vitale criticize was Bruce Pearl, whom Dickie claimed had committed "coaching suicide" when he took on his buddy "LouDoo" Henson at Illinois.

I can't stand "Dukie V", and his schtick wore thin with me a long time ago. I'm sure he was just crushed when "Puke" got their ***** handed to them by Arizona. My wife who doesn't really even care about or follow basketball, knew what a monumental upset that was. I wish they'd have somebody else as their "top" color guy for college BB. For the record, I could never stand Billy Packer either. Where do they get thes guys?
