Don't look now, Top 25

So its fair to say you arent a Steve Alford fan spank? :)
I used to be.

Well, let me rephrase that... I was forced to defend him more than I would have like to when was at Iowa. He got a lot of crap from Iowa fans that I thought was unwarranted, so I supposed I would get pooled into the "Alford Apologist" group.

I wasn't opposed to the Alford hire. I was still ok with him as the coach the season after Bru and Horner. But towards the end of that year, the worm turned for me.

What I noticed is how Dairese Gary had 25 pts last nite, 10 pts in the last 3 minutes, to lead NM to that upset over #12 BYU....man, I wish that we had found a way to convince that kid to join Jake and Jarryd as a hawkeye. Just from a pure bb performance standpoint, he would be a god-send on this hawkeye team right now as a 3 year starting pg. Then a Cully can play off the bench his frosh year...I really think if we had Jake and Gary in our backcourt, with our current team, we would be fighting for middle of the pack at worst. I have seen Gary play...he is bulldog tough, strong, and a savvy leader on the floor. Objectively, when you consider that last class of SA's with Jake,Jarryd and Dairese....pretty good class. Too bad it fell apart.

Whether it is a 30 point loss, or a 1 point loss.........it's still a loss.

And, since 2006, we have seen way too many of them.

Yes it is and yes we have.

I went to the game last night. Drove 2.5 hours. I was ecstatic about the way the team played. You can't tell me this team hasn't improved. I was PROUD to watch that team last night. They played their arses off. Please tell me you can at LEAST admit that.

In the end, Lick will be judged on W's and L's. I get that.

my happiness does not revolve around Coach Alford's success or lack of. When he was a coach at Iowa it did but that ended.

Steve Alford has his UNM Lobos at 19-3, and fresh off a win last night against #10 BYU.

We, at Iowa, three years later, are getting excited on this message board because a team "played Ohio State tough....but still lost"

Alford knew what he was doing, and what he was dealing with in the Iowa fans.

He will parlay that into a bigger and better job.

You have to give him credit at some point.

If Alford's Lobos played Ohio State they would get clocked big time.

And you see a different game in person, wouldn't you say.

Yes and no. You get a better "feel" for the game being there. You probably miss some things that you'd see on TV.

I personally enjoy going to the games but not doable all the time anymore.

I will be transparent: I have watched about 15 minutes of hoops this year. Have more important things to do. Fairweather? Perhaps. But, from a basketball standpoint, we are not the prettiest car on the lot. Pretty dull, nothing fancy.

I have, however, watched every wrestling match less one. Then again, I have only missed (5) of them in the past four years.

I used to love watching basketball. Can't say I "love" it anymore. But, there were some great moments from last night's game.

The biggest moment happened at halftime when Adrian Clayborn was at midcourt.

You have our permission to become a Lobos fan. We don't need you here!!!

Slow down, big guy. Just because I have a negative viewpoint of Iowa's hoops program right now, does not make me any less a Hawkeye fan that you.

If I didn't care, I would not be so critical.

You lost me man. How can you make such definitive statements about the program when u don't even watch? And here I was respecting your opinion.

good call...thank god for internet message boards though...this way everyone can have an opinion on things that arent even educated about....15 minutes out of nearly 20 some guys...what an idiot

Alford didn't want to be here and he left. I thought he was a good coach, but he is gone. I'm not sure what the point of the OP is -- you can't live in the past.

Coach Lickliter wants to be here and he is building something -- I think you are pretty foolish if you can't see it now. This is a young team that should get better. Let's support what we have and forget about past coaches who can do nothing for us now.

Alford wanted to be here for a long time...I think he finally just got sick and tired of petty little Iowa fans who constantly felt the need to try and bring him down.

With the way the same fans have been treating Lickliter...I wonder how much longer he'll want to be here.

But then again we're talking about the same fans who complained about Norm Parker for years...and even Coach Ferentz for a couple years...and now it's always Ken O'Keefe...some people just don't get it.
