Just got done listening to Gary Dolphin and Bobby Hanson on the radio pre game show. Dolph said that the fan support from the U of I students was and I quote "Pathetic"!! Common U of I students get behind this basketball team and show them your support! Need great home court advantage!! GO HAWKS!!!

If I was you, I turn off my cochlear implant and ignore Dolphin.

Love Hansen... Ole Dolphin I'm sorry to say wore thin on me a long time ago... I got so tired of him calling the wrong kids names involved in plays or just flat out being behind and wrong on things. Just so tough to listen to. If I can watch the games I'll watch them instead

At the risk of being one of those get off my lawn guys, I found myself getting annoyed by the lack of atmosphere and energy during the game. That place can be and should be much louder.

The students get bad seating at Carver in order for the blue hairs to sit court side. Hard to blame the students for not getting excited about it. Duke, Michigan State and other venues that are dedicated to getting their students involved, have set the bar and we are sorely lacking!

I don't think they start classes again until Tuesday.

^^^ This ^^^... School doesn't start till Tuesday. If they stay through the break they have to pay rent so most go home... thus the reason for some low crowd noise since the start of B1G play. I swear that some people are so ignorant with their comments.

Crowd *was* great today, especially braving sub-zero temps to get to this afternoon game.

Can't say the same for the Cambus service after the game...had to wait around for quite a long time before any buses showed up at all.

Cantaloupes became walnuts lol

The simple fact is that most students do not care enough about Iowa basketball to attend the games. Think about where the program was when they were in junior high and high school. They found other things to be interested in than college hoops. This will change.

The long-time, loyal, money-contributing fans that many of you like to call "blue hairs" may not stand up and yell as much as you like, but they have earned the right to have good seats. They show up way better than the students!

That said, I do think they should reconfigure a little by putting students at both ends, extending all the way to premium seating on each side.

I don't know if they still have a rule that student tickets are non-transferable, but that must stop. There are too many games during breaks and on weekdays for most students to go to them all. With electronic ticketing, perhaps they could sell both season and single- game tickets to students at low cost.

They are transferable now, but the process is a hassle (online through the shoddy ticket office site) and that combined with student apathy make sales/trades way less frequent than with football

When I was in school, most students were absolutely back in town by Sunday. The dorms reopen on Saturday, contract dining starts Sunday. They're paying for that whether they're in town or not. It's not a viable excuse.

I would advocate for the students to have better seats but it would be embarrassing to have empty seats in the student section during televised games. We can only dream of a college basketball atmosphere like Indiana, Duke, and MSU have. Iowa used to have that in the old Fieldhouse.

I've called the placed a Morgue for years, partly to blame on the students and partly on the administration for not placing the students in sections to be raucous. Admin won't displace the donors and give the sections to the students which should be about their college experience. They should re-design the lower sides on half the court & get students down closer on the sides such as at Mich State.

The question that was posed to Dolph when he made the comment about the students was regarding making the student section more of a detriment to the visiting team. Dolph (and Hansens) first response was that perhaps the big donors wouldn't like it. What hawkeye fan out there wouldn't be in favor of making a rowdy and hostile environment for the visitors? If I get to a point where I don't "like" the students being loud and rowdy, I'll trade in my season tickets and start watching from home. So should anybody else, regardless of how much they donate.

The students have to show something to warrant that. Besides, the seats they have are not god-awful. There aren't really any terrible seats at Carver.

Wow. You haven't been to many basketball games at CHA, have you? Get yourself a couple of tickets in the middle rows, take a friend that like to stand and cheer, then get back to us with how many times you've been told to sit down. You'll need more than 1 hand to keep count.

That's bull. There have been many, many great student sections at CHA over the past 30 years! It has never once prompted the administration to take the big donors premo seats away and give them to the students!
