Are you serious about this "no redshirt" thing? I'm sorry but you don't really understand basketball then. For starters, good impact freshman do not go to schools that have a recent history of losing. Which Iowa has. Second, why waste a year of eligibility on him when he can ride pine, learn the system, and improve. Third, Iowa does need someone to play next year, a juco. and lastly, basketball players are projects, all of them. You, as a coach, are to improve them if you want to win. Iowa will not become good by getting 2 year players. Iowa will improve if Fran and the staff can bring in guys who are great athletically, and have some talent, and coach them up. You need to realize most programs redshirt, and being able to do that is a luxury. Would you rather have freshman come in and play every year over seniors who are bad? Or have 5th year seniors who are much more developed than the recruits coming in?

"Washpun admittedly did struggle from the free-throw line. He hit just 52.2 percent from the floor — 82-of-157...and Washpun sank 25 percent of his 3-point shots this year."
Uh, this is not good from a point guard. If these stats are correct then he is a project. We can't afford a project point guard next season. Have to be better options.
I linked this story earlier - it states Tennessee has offered Washpun. So no Iowa and no Tennessee offer for Washpun.

Alright, I stand corrected. However, I still don't think Washpun is ready to play next year, but in 2 he probably will be.
Besides Larson and transfers, quickly name me five scholarship players who are redshirting from any team.
Sorry, but I don't think redshirting is as common as you think. I can't find current info, but in 2008 only 4 D1 scholarship freshmen redshirted for reasons other than injury.
But thanks for the comic relief. Always love a good dose of irony.
Really? What is your source for 'only four' number?
I'm beginning to think Fran and his staff have trouble closing the deal with recruits.
To date, Fran has received a committment from one recruit (Oglesby) with other BCS offers and he lived a few miles up the road from Iowa City.
Harris, Stokes, Katenda, Cezar, Carter, etc. No committments from anyone that has other options. And don't give me the "why would anybody come to Iowa" line. It's not like the powerhouse schools are our competition for these kids.
If this continues, Fran needs to re-evaluate his staff after the spring signing period. Recruiting will make or break Fran's tenure at Iowa. I hope he realizes this.
