Does The Big Ten really Want UCLA and SC

Caught an article on the internet where Troy Aikman said he was embarrassed by UCLA. Attac 12 teams join the Big 12endance at the last game was like 27000 and they just don't draw. Of course they haven't been very good but SC doesn't draw well either. Just isn't the interest on the coast like there was 40 years ago and frankly just a lot of choices.
so what is it going to look like with Iowa Northwestern or Minnesota playing out there. Not likely to draw well either. I guess it comes down to TV but it might be like playing during another pandemic
And if this isn't concerning imagine how many people will be interested when the leftover Pac 12 teams join the Big 12

The are $eveal rea$on$ why U$C and UCLA want to $witch conference allegiance$ and join the B1G. And ye$ the B1G would love to tap into we$t coa$t $un$hine and the LA metro area for recruiting purpo$e$.

Yes, of course the Big Ten wants USC and UCLA. If the conference did not want them they would not have been invited to join. The Big Ten probably wants a few more "brands."

The Big Ten wants USC and UCLA because it expands their BTN footprint into the California markets, which is a huge boost in revenue for the entire conference. They don't give a shit if only 27K attend the games as that doesn't impact the conference very much because it is my understanding that each school only shares 35% of the gate receipts, it used to be a minimum of $300K and a max of $1 million (this has probably changed). That's pocket change considering the boost they will get from TV revenue.

This is the only reason why adding Rutgers made sense, it was to add the New York City metro area to the BTN footprint not because they had 20K fans show up.

I really don't think the conference and/or programs really care about azzes in the seats anymore like they did in the past decades. The revenue model has completely shifted over to TV viewing/streaming and I think they now know people aren't going to attend games like they did in the past but are still viewing them. It's just a shift.

I think in years to come, you are going to see a lot of stadiums for even big programs be 3/4 full many times. Just the way it is now.

Actually, programs should really do something like drastically drop their concession prices and treat those fans who do go, if they really care to have stadiums look full. The majority of the $$$$$ is coming from the conference TV deal anyway, so why not. Hell put hot dogs 20% over overhead and relatively cheap soda/water and $5 beers. Make a little money on top of it, and let fans feel they are getting a good deal.

I mean college teams used to rely on azzes in the seats and concession sales, but not so much anymore. Treat the fans!

I am sure you are all right. Money and that means TV viewers or streamers etc. While ticket revenue is pretty substantial at schools like Ohio State Michigan and even Iowa it won't pay the bills for schools on the coast.
I must say that while maybe few fans in the seats isn't the most important thing I really thought the games during the pandemic with no fans were not nearly as much fun to watch as games with screaming fans like we have at Iowa

Oh, I'm with ya. Watching those games on TV just didn't have it and the fans and screaming add so much as far as viewing. It was one notch up than watching baseball games in 2020.

This will never happen in Kinnick, not when every game has people lined up at every timeout and halftime to pay for the over priced concessions and beer.

Yea. Agree. I can't right now remember what MLB team did this, but one of the owners did go this route of dumping concession prices to entice fans to attend. It's one of those low market teams who battles with fan attendance. It's a pipe dream.

You can do it in MLB because you have 81 games and at least some of them are going to be Tuesday afternoon in April.

I suspect that when Iowa is playing either one of these teams, 40-50% of the fans will be in black and gold. Nice weather, cheap tickets and a relatively easy flight? Its like a bowl game that you know of a year in advance. Big Ten fans travel.

When the Huskers play UCLA, it will be Memorial West. Remember when Nebraska had more fans than Notre Dame did in South Bend? Imagine that but with better weather and tickets readily available.

Even the Cubs were doing this earlier in the season trying to get people in Wrigley on a cold April day.

when our local NHL team (Carolina Hurricanes) sucked- we would have $1 hot dog nights, cheap ass tickets (lower bowl $25 and $15 upper bowl) to try to get assess in the seats. It worked, got more people to come out - then we got good again, and now prices have skyrockets and we are still close to sell outs most games.

I just looked up that team because I thought it was fake. Turns out the Hartford Whalers moved to Raleigh, NC in 1997. Things I didn't know.

Anywho, if we can get that Duke's Mayo Bowl in Charlotte I think the turnout of Iowa fans just in the Carolinas should be enough to fill the lower bowl.

Rumors out there have it that Oklahoma and Texas came to the B1G first before they jumped to the SEC. If the rumors are true and a time machine existed, Kevin Warren and the B1G presidents would go back in time and bring in both schools. Knowing that they could grab any PAC-whatever school, whenever they wanted.
