So you are guaranteeing if he starts out 0-4 shooting next week he is not going to quit.
I dont understand how your question relates to my comment. You're saying starting 0-4 is showing no effort?

There's no way Jok will make an NBA squad, let alone get drafted. He's too small, struggles to play D at even the NCAA level, and would get devoured by NBA defenders....this could give him an opportunity to heal up and start preparing for the NBA draft process.

I think a lot of you college basketball fans either don't watch NBA or just plain don't comprehend how big the talent gap is between college ball and the pros. It's so much more than even football. The best way to comprehend if you're not a basketball person is to actually go to a game and watch because TV doesn't do it justice. Those guys are huge and on a whole different level. The game may look slower, etc., but it's apples/oranges. Jok and his Manute Bol legs would get tossed around like a rag doll. He's a good kid and did some good stuff here (especially last season), but he'd be in way over his head. Look how dominant Uthoff was in college...the pro game is eating him alive in the short time he's been there and he's even got some size.
Jok will play a few years for the Turkmenistan Goat Herders and make some decent money, then come back here and hopefully use that degree to make a whole bunch more. Don't put the Mitch King blinders on, people.
This team will have 7 months to learn how to play without Jok. For now they need him.
Woah. I'm not asking if Fran should bench Jok. I'm saying if Fran & Pete decided it was in Pete's best interest to not play in the NIT, would you as an Iowa fan be for it.
Kind of sounds like that when you start a thread titled "Do You Want Jok To Play In The NIT". How do you expect people to interpret that?
Fair enough. Probably a poorly worded title but if you read my OP and responses you'd know that's not the intent.
Basically I wasn't saying if Pete was 50/50 on whether he wanted to play or not, what would you want?
I personally would like to see more experience for the younger players. Pete likely gives us the best chance to win the whole thing, but to me personally I don't think anyone gets remembered for hanging NIT banners.
Pete will likely play, and I'm in no way going to be upset about it.
Basketball isn't football.... he isn't hurt and has eligibility therefore he'll suit up. I guess I don't see the point in bringing up this scenario since it's irrelevant. It sounds like some of you may have Jok fatigue and a short memory. Yes he had a terrible game against Indiana. He's still one of the best players in college ball.
In that case it's just up to him.Jok hasn't been an effective player for at least the last two months. Here's his line since the Purdue home win on January 12th:
15PPG / 35% FG / 28% 3p / 3 TOPG
As I've said I believe that is because he is still injured. Even in the Indiana game with a wide open look at three it appeared to me he needed all of his strength just to get it there. Early in the year he could shoot from way behind three with very little effort.
But even that's not the point here. Jok is a great player and a great Hawk so if he wants to play he clearly has every right to.
My question was in a hypothetical scenario if Jok was considering sitting out would people be like:
-yes let's see what these young kids can do
Or
-no our chances of winning the NIT aren't as great now
