Just wondering what everyone thought. Clearly Jok has been a great player for us and likely gives us the best chance to make a run here. This thread is not meant to knock him.

With that said it could make some sense. To me he still doesn't seem 100% physically and this could give him an opportunity to heal up and start preparing for the NBA draft process.

He also plays 30 minutes a game and those minutes would give opportunities for some of our younger guys to gain some more experience in competitive games.

What say you?

Edit. To be clear. Pete & Fran would both be involved in this decision.

The guy just scored 21 point in 21 minutes a week ago today, but you don't think he's heathy? He's as healthy as he's going to get, and playing another 150 minutes max in an Iowa uniform isn't going to change anything for the worse.

If you get the effort you got against Indiana then let him prepare for the NBA. If you are FM, you figure out something to sell to the public, he is injured or whatever and keep it moving. Someone pointed this out in another post in another thread, his teammates said the right things publicly, but you are insane if you think they didn't at least make a mental note about how Jok played.

When he's on fire, watching him is about as fun as it gets with Iowa basketball. I'll take as many more games as I can get to watch him.

This is where we separate, the effort has gotta be there. I hate being that guy who question someone's effort, but that Indiana game left a bad taste in my mouth.

No one is going to bench Jok on his last game as a senior when he's started every game this season (except when he was injured). 1st team Big Ten selection.

What message would that send to the team or incoming recruits? Doesn't matter what you do in your career, you'll benched if you have a bad game or don't hustle on a couple plays.

Woah. I'm not asking if Fran should bench Jok. I'm saying if Fran & Pete decided it was in Pete's best interest to not play in the NIT, would you as an Iowa fan be for it.

If Iowa were a blue blood I could buy this argument.....obviously they are not. If Jok is going to play, at least set a precedent that at least you gotta play with effort. If we see that the next 2 or 3 weeks I am cool.

If Pete wants to play in the NIT, he should play. If Pete isn't interested and would rather get ready for tryouts, he should skip. Pretty simple.

If Jok decided it was against his interests then it wouldn't matter what fans think or want. But it would not be his best interest or his team's.

Best thing to do is start him and if his defensive effort is lacking, bench him for a 4 minute stretch. Sends a powerful message to all the younger players.

Winning record or history of the program has nothing to do with it. That's irrelavant. If this wasn't the post season and a 1 loss tourney, I would more likely agree with no effort = not playing or even not starting. As Jaws said above, its Peter Buckets choice.

So you are guaranteeing if he starts out 0-4 shooting next week he is not going to quit.:)
