controlled substance... not always fine line between controlled substances and non controlled. alcohol and weed... fuzzy line...

andro is legal to take but a tested for ped. others are similar. the line between protein shakes and hgh is a lot fuzzier than you'd have use believe. if it isn't to you then you aren't thinking for yourself.

By Andro do you mean a synthetic Androgen, like Andro-gel? If so, that's a schedule III controlled substance. It's illegal to prescribe for off label use.
HGH isn't a controlled substnace, but it is also illegal for physicians to prescribe for off label (PED) use. Not a fuzzy line at all, chief.

Whey protein is made up of protein isolate from whey. You mix it with water, juice, or milk, and can get 20-40grams of protein. It's legal, safe, and probably healthy for most.

HGH and testosterone (ando, etc) are illegal to sell, distribute, or use. They are dangerous, and have significant long term side effects (mostly dose and duration dependent).

Control Status:
[FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]Human growth hormone is not controlled under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). However, as part of the 1990 Anabolic Steroids Control Act, the distribution and possession, with the intent to distribute, of hGH "for any use…other than the treatment of a disease or other recognized medical condition, where such use has been authorized by the Secretary of Health and Human Services…and pursuant to the order of a physician…" was criminalized as a five-year felony under the penalties chapter of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act of the FDA. Just to clarify what Duff means be fuzzy line, he's talking about the line between what is and isn't legal. It is arbitrary, I admit. But any line will be. So you're forced to either legalize all of it or ban all of it (if the fuzzy line bothers you that much), and neither is a good choice.

It's fair to wonder how they determine where to draw the line, but the things Duff is using to demonstrate the dilemma aren't appropriate, IMO. Protein shakes aren't even remotely close to the line. A more apt comparison would be hormone supplements used as PED's, and Viagra.

I think a good place to draw the line would be related to the health and safety of the person taking the substance. Also, getting an "unfair advantage" is a bit more slippery, but I think we can all agree that there is an enormous difference between creatine (mildly positive or equivocal results) vs. testosterone (proven, powerful performance enhancer).

Some of the crap sold in health food stores may be what Duff has in mind. I don't know. Some of that could be harmful for a person, and some of that could have a very mild positive impact on performance. They could have a negative impact. DHEA is a good example. You can buy it, but it is banned, I believe, in most sports. Since it's a precursor to sex hormones, it CAN increase testosterone. However, it also CAN increase estrogen. Ooops. But I digress.

I was asked, I think, to think for myself. Well, I am. Some people intentionally like to blur lines. In this case, if we're talking about EPO, testosterone, or hGh, the line really ain't blurry at all. All of those things are illegal in sport AND for the regular person (who doesn't have a disease that can benefit from those drugs).

Hint: If you can get a massive performance increase AND go to jail from taking a substance, there's your sign! :)

Interesting you are hung up on health benefits and potential negative impacts. tobacco is legal has no health benefits in killed millions of people year. weed is 8 controlled substance, has several documented health benefits, and kills no 1 yet it's a controlled substance.

secondly the jury is out on long term health impact on many PEDs . I'm hardly a medical expert in won't pretend to be 1, but I'm aware of studies that show HGH can have positive benefits when used responsibly.

Timmy Lincecum was a better pitcher when he smoked the chronic. Now that barry has closed a lot of the weed shops and Timmy is smokin the seeds and stems he is struggling.

When used responsibly is the key phrase. But in the race to become the best of the best, moderation is usually one of the first values to go out the window.

oh and I should clarify this aint all about HGH and steroids. there are literally dozens of items that are perfectly legal and on the shelves at any GNC fitness that if used suspension with both major League Baseball in the NFL
