Do we want Barta back?

So, let me get this straight. Barta takes a leave of absence to battle cancer and some want to send him a pink slip that he can open while lying on his hospital bed. Got it.

That's kind of what I was thinking. There's a time for discussion on this topic. Now is in poor taste, IMO.

And one other thing. Barta has done an excellent job with the facility upgrades. I know there is a large staff that drives that and raises funds, but they have done and are continuing to do an excellent job. We don't have a T Boone Pickens or Nike man dumping money in.

Yes because firing him when taking medical absence surely wouldn't cost more than the dykes hauled in.......(sarcasm) My biggest problem and only one has been the extensions he gives to KF as if KF has pictures of Barta cheating on his wife or something....

I have no problem with him.

That's a little overly dramatic, isn't it?

No one said fire him now. No one wished any ill health on him or criticized his taking a leave.

As with every other topic on this or any public message board, nothing we post here impacts anything that happens in real life.

I don't see the harm.

With Barta on the shelf due to his medical issues, I have this question do we want him back? Our sports teams have downgraded under his watch I feel and we had the issue with the field hockey team. There are other issues that have happened on his watch including the suit by the women's crew member who got 360K from the athletic department. He hired Lick, Fran and Brands. Right now it seems like the programs have stagnated. Wrestling hasn't sniffed a championship since 2010 not to mention losing the big ten title, women's basketball isn't as strong, Ferentz had his tem year contract put in place and like I said we got Lick. How do we break out of this stagnation and is Barta the one to lead us on? Bowlsby is now the Commissioner or the Big 12. Where would Barta go if he was to leave?

Umm women's basketball just went to a Sweet Sixteen a couple years ago and the last two recruiting classes are the best they have had soooo keep seeing if something sticks!

2 NCAA tourney wins over the 14 and 11 seed with the advantage of your home court. Nice, but hardly a WOW!
Just win baby. So if the men made it to the sweet sixteen and played the 14 and 11 seed then it wouldn't mean much to you? Get outta here. So sorry that they can't control who they beat. That 11 seed was an ACC team, not some schmuck.

Yeah, it would mean something. (still waiting for it too). No they can't control who they beat, you play who's on the schedule. Upsets in the tourney happen.

Point was...sighting one Sweet 16 accomplished without leaving your home floor isn't exactly "We're a powerhouse" stuff. As I said..."Nice", yes. A good season for the lady Hawks. But not "Wow" stuff you put near the top of your resume.

Anyway, lest I get branded heartless baztard... of course we all hope Barta comes through his cancer treatment successfully. No doubt about that.

He gets kudos for hiring Heller. (all be it in a sport that's clearly second tier)

He gets credit for hiring Fran, but he also hired Lickloser...which nearly destroyed the bball program.

Wrestling at Iowa has always been great. Bringing Brands back was certainly a good move, but hardly a genius play. I'd guess Gable had as much to do with it as Barta

If you're inferring that our poor football performance is to be blamed on injuries...please. Yes...to some degree football IS..what really counts.
Along with Heller, Joey Woody was a damn good hire for Track and Field.

Read the OP.

"With Barta on the shelf due to his medical issues, I have this question do we want him back?"

"Back"
implies that we should consider getting rid of him while on medical leave, or hope that he doesn't return, so it boils down to one of two things. Either you don't see that statement as being representative of poor taste, or your reading comprehension is questionable. Either way, more power to you bro. You're entitled to your opinion.

Whether actual "harm" is being done is irrelevant when considering whether a post is in poor taste or not, unless you consider the possibility that someone in Barta's family, or Barta himself, may actually be a member of HN and suffer emotional harm from reading it.

Not trying to be dramatic. I just think the post is in poor taste. You apparently don't and that's fine.

WoW....woman's basketball to prove a point? Two gift games at home to fill stands and play 5 feet below the rim....my racing heart.

Good Lord, look at the title of the post...."DO WE WANT BARTA BACK?"

Yeah, I know, impossible not to take it out of context...

First, I hope he kicks cancers a$$.

That said, Iowa used to be alphas among b10 administrations. With Bump and Bowlsby, Iowa had a loud voice. Not so much with Barta. I believe that ADs from other institutions are viewed with more esteem. Among our main rivals, MSU and Wisconsin, we don’t have nearly as much influence from the AD office.
