These guys on College Football Live just said that if there was no BCS and Miami played Iowa in the 2002 Orange Bowl, Miami would "dismantle" Iowa and would be national champions.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

Why were they talking about something that happened over 8 eights years ago?

I still maintain that the two best teams in the nation met on the field in South Florida that year. Iowa and USC both would have defeated tOSU and Miami that year.

The last time I can find where Iowa was "dismantled" was in Oct of 2007.....31-6 by Purdue.

Agreed, USC beats OSU or Miami for sure. What really bugs me about that game is that people only remember the end score. They never remember how close it was at halftime with Iowa leaving a ton of points on the field.

That seems like a reasonable opinion, based on how the USC game went.

That's funny. They all said the same things before Miami played Ohio State as well. How'd that turn out again?

That's true, it was 10-10 at half. I believe it was Mo Brown that dropped a TD right before half, leading to a missed FG by Kaeding. If I recall correctly, Kaeding made two kicks that were both negated by false starts, before eventually missing the third or having it blocked.

I disagree with that. That was a good USC, but that Miami team was absolutely loaded, so was the Ohio State defense. I think Miami was the best team in the country that year, and would have beat USC, us or Ohio St if they had played them again.

I believe OSU was +4 turnovers against Miami, and still needed a very favorable call in overtime to win. If we had played Miami we would have needed +4 turnovers as well. Even number of TOs and they would beat us as badly as USC did. Best two teams that year--Miami and USC. 3a and 3b Iowa and OSU. Luckiest? OSU.

IIRC, they were inside the 5 yard line 3 times and only came away with 3 points. Lot of missed opportunities. On a side note, Netflix is sending me this DVD for tomorrow. :)

Well, I still blame that Orange bowl loss to the long lay off that gave their defense time to prepare for our triple option offense...oh wait I am on the wrong team's message board.

Living on the West Coast I watched almost every USC game that year. I came home for X-mas and told my fellow Hawk fans USC was very, very good and that IA was going to have some troubles. I got scoffed at and dismissed by pretty much everyone, which I understood and accepted being the Hawks had such a fantastic year. We all know how the game played out, and I'd still contend even as loaded as Miami was, USC would've soundly defeated them, too.

They would have. That Miami team was loaded. A lot of turnovers and a horrible injury/call is what turned the tides and gave OSU an OT victory.

That year Miami was the best team, followed by OSU, followed by USC.
