I don't think people give Ohio State the credit they deserve that year. Say what you want about having to win close games against lesser teams but isn't that what Iowa did this past year and we all think that was a great team. Some of us would even like to think they'd have even beaten Alabama or Texas with a healthy Stanzi the whole year.
Lets look at Ohio State's resume that season.
-Took apart a solid Texas Tech team to begin the season 45-21. Texas Tech hasn't exactly been seeking a quality out of conference opponent since.
-Shut down PAC-10 Champion (they won the conference, not USC) Washington State 25-7.
-Only allowed 20+ points in regulation once. See above. Won that game by 24 points.
-One All American caliber player at every level of the defense.
-Set then record for most players drafted in a single season.
-And of course won National Title
I do believe that the Hurricanes were the most talented team that year, but Ohio State played better that day. A lot of people point to the overtime pass interference call and say they should have lost but Ohio State left points on the field a few times and were almost done in a bad call near the end of the 4th quarter. You don't always have to be the best team in the country everyday. You just have to be the best team in the stadium the day of the game. Ohio State did that.
