Players getting ready to come out for second half of Indiana/Ohio State game and a piece of metal falls to the court from the scoreboard, not far from where an Ohio Dtate player was standing. So naturally game is in delay, who knows for how long.

Geez, where have we seen this before?

My guess is Wrigley Field.

Oops, my bad. That was concrete.

They need to tear that place down. Move all their games to Indianapolis until they build a new arena.

Hilarious but scary as hell.

Some day that whole scoreboard will come crashing down, and there will be fatalities if they don't do something about it now.

I think it was built in the mid-60s? It has been there for a very long time.
The thing is, it's always been a real home advantage with the layout and how the sides are and how steep it is. The old Iowa Fieldhouse had a unique environment but could have never been remodeled because it would not have met fire code. This is probably a similar situation. They don't want to give up that unique home advantage as this thing is prob still grandfathered in, but they are one injury or death away from a lawsuit. If they build a new arena, it won't resemble the old much because it would have meet fire and safety code.

Is that the reason they are holding on to it?

Bout time to condemn that place. Could you imagine a kid getting hurt or worse by that? Yikes.
Or at the very least, shut the place down until an INDEPENDENT contractor (not the homerish group from 2014 that magically was able to complete a top-to-bottom inspection of Assembly Hall in about six hours and declare it safe - under DIRECT orders from both the coach and A.D. to protect their precious home game) comes in and goes into every crook and nanny, makes some recommendations and has every one of them followed through on. All of it must be fully and properly permitted, approved and completed before undergoing a second inspection until they even BEGIN to consider having anything else in there. That usually takes anywhere from two weeks to six months when the actual building integrity is in question.

But in this case, strike two has to be declared that Indiana has struck out in terms of having home games, probably for the rest of this season. Too bad, so sad, but your point is 30,000 times more important than protecting stupid home games, especially when an arena in Indianapolis is not only readily available, but just like last time, has stepped up and volunteered to help in any way needed.

For sure. It's the state of Indiana for peats sake they have other gyms all over plenty capable of them being able to play in for the short term.

Dubuque Hempstead High School was opened (rushed) in 1969 and they've been jury rigging construction projects and putting band aids on it ever since.
