I would strongly suggest that you review the recent posts by "hawkstrats" and proceed with banning him/her. Clearly this is a "troll" situation that is damaging the reputation of Hawkeyenation. The personal attacks on Iowa basketball players and coaches are inappropriate at best. I would greatly appreciate, as a long time and loyal Hawkeyenation member, either a ban order or an explanation as to why a ban is not a proper response. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Translation: I can't stand when someone respectfully disagrees with me!

I have not used curse words, or attacked any player personally. I disagree with people on the assessment of McCabe's play, and feel he showed real immaturity in lashing out on twitter. Not that he needs my permission, but if that is worthy of a ban, have at it Jon.

Also, if we want to talk about damaging the reputation, not of the site but of Iowa fans in general, Jon was one of the first to retweet McCabe's tweet.

hawkstrat is no troll

he is sometimes so direct as to be blunt, and he has strong and well-informed views on basketball, but he is no troll

if he doesn't use an american vintage series '57, set up with 11s (with a wound g), I might have issues there, because such things are life and death matters, but after having read the strat's posts for three years on two different boards, I will again say that he is no troll.

Mom, Mom, Hawkstrats said things I don't like.

Your problem with that? I agreed with Zach. Feel that there is a sick minority out there who are cowards and would pee down their legs if they were to be forced to say the things face to face they hide behind anonymity and say. And I like to shine line of that ugly minority in the hops of stamping them out, one cockroach at a time.

You are not stomping out anything. You are not leading a charge. You tweeted it out because you felt it was a story. The fact of the matter is this is an embarrassment to what should be a fun and exciting season. We should be celebrating this team, not downgrading them. Bottom line is this:

1) Right or wrong this stuff happens at every university.
2) Social media gives everyone anonymous, instant access to people, be it athlete or not
3) We don't even know if these were actually Iowa fans, or posers. Regardless they are not true Iowa fans in my book.
4) They get to hide behind their computer and screen name and do not have to be accountable for their words or actions
5) This to me is the most important. The people doing this kind of despicable stuff are the VERY LARGE minority. The top 99.9% of the Iowa Hawkeye Fan Base, and all other fan bases would not and do not act like this. Which is why I said earlier you are not stomping anything out or leading a charge. You cant fix stupid.

As I said in another thread, Jon could hammer about 8-12 people for comments in every single game thread.

Instead he just chooses to delete the thread after the game, which I dont understand.

Its like a free pass is given if they rip on players during a game.

Totally agree with your summation. I doubt any super hero with a big T on his chest will show up and stomp out all twitter negativity.

If I thought it was a story I would have written a......story?

I can't stand trolls and boorish fans...next in line are people who think they know your motives.

Because most people allow their emotions to lead them with anonymity like this. If I banned those folks the board would be vacant after a while. Outside of in the moment emotional settings, most people revert to the mean of being somewhat reasonable.

Look, I've been doing this for 15 years...I've built four or five communities of over 40,000 users minimum. While you may disagree with me and what I do, and while I have faults, I am comfortable with my body of work.

Stop it. I did not say anything out of line nor negative at you in any way. You tweeted it out because it was relevant. I am sorry if you took my comments at negative towards you, as that was not my intention. Go back to bed and get up on the right side.

It was stupid for McCabe to respond. Bottom line. If he didnt respond to these select few idiots, this would be a non issue. Idiots are idiots. McCabe should know better.

I agree with your last sentence. You can't get rid of stupid people and even if you could there will be a new bunch of up and coming stupid people ready to step in and take their place. I'm sure the people that tweeted him are more proud than embarrassed.

The only thing you can do is teach people how to handle stupid people. It's like raising your kids. You can try to shelter them from pain and adversity or you can teach them how to handle it when it happens. I think the latter is a lot more productive.

I think people should be banned who ask the boss to ban someone else. Let him do his job. Telling him how to do it is disrespectful, not to mention you sound like a little tattle tell.

Did you or did you not say in your post that I tweeted it out because I thought it was a story? Yeah, you did. Which is you assuming you understand my motives.

My motive was to make the trolls look bad. About ten minutes after I re tweeted it out I went back to undo the retweet as I had given it thought that I didn't want zach to deal with collateral damage. But he had deleted it by then

So, do you still think you know why I did what I did?

I'd be willing to bet that McCabe does know better. But he's pretty young, just coming off an emotional loss where he didn't play very well. So he lashed out to defend himself. Understandable.

A better way to handle it when people attack you via Twitter, is to just retweet what they said. Now the whole world sees what they said and who they are.
