I would rather trim my ball hair with a steak knife than follow a high school kid's twitter account.

Thats creepy.

Why? It's freeking Twitter, everyone's doing it. I don't see what is wrong with following the kid, and dropping him a line about how I'd love to see him become a member of the Hawkeye b-ball squad.

If I saw him on the street I'd give him a dap and say the same thing, but I don't live in IC or Philly so this is as close as I can get to that.

If he ends up committing I will tweet him a congratulations and welcome. If he goes somewhere else I'll stop following him like I did Ben Brust.

I don't see why that is so creepy.

Dude, you need to get out more. That's creepy on so many levels I don't even know where to start.

It is sooooo much less creepy talking about a kid we don't know amongst a group a people I don't know....

If the kid has a twitter account he obviously has no issues with people following his tweets.

I am not a twitter'rrr nor do I understand the excitement in it. However, is it really that far off of chatting to total strangers in a forum setting?

"However, is it really that far off of chatting to total strangers in a forum setting?" agree with this sentence haha....and theres nothing wrong with following a prospect on twitter if your intentions are alright. If you just want to occasionaly see tweets from the kid is one thing but if you find yourself constantly checking his twitter page and writing to him is another.

The day I feel I need to chat it up with a 17 year old kid via Twitter who might come to Iowa or the day I care what said kid had for breakfast that day is the day I need to kill myself.

And yes, it is different than "chatting" with fellow Hawkeye fans on the state of the basketball program, the hiring of our new coach, etc.

If you can't see the difference, then one of two things is going on: A)You need professional help or B)I'm getting really old and need to get with the times. :)

I may be mistaken here, but wasn't it a sort of no-no to contact prospects via email or any other fashion even if you were just a fan of a school? I don't see exactly how tweeting or tweetering him or anything would be any different. Assumingly it is safe to take a "follow but not reply" approach to this subject, but with advances in social networking that whole rule may have just gone out the window.

I don't do twitter, but from some of the things i've seen posted on this board, it seems like twitter is used for a lot more than "what I had for breakfast". There seems to be a large group who think twitter is hooked up to your brain and spits out every random thought you may have throughout the entire day. It CAN be a good tool for putting out information if used reasonably.

Following is one thing, but trying to convince him to come to a school is technically a recruiting violation.

Just saying...

I find it creepy. I find it creepy that you follow someone you have never met. Its not creepy to follow a celebrity or an athlete because it gives insight into the lives of a public figure that you never had before. But this is a kid. A kid that can offer me zero by following him on twitter. So in reality its just following a high school kid that you have never met. That is creepy.

He isnt gunna let me know what his decisions are before anybody else. We arent gunna meet up and shoot hoops. He isnt gunna talk Iowa with me. So whats the point?

Some of you need to understand a technology before knocking it...I have found twitter to be an outstanding tool for by job. I am able to keep up with trends before most in my industry have even heard about them. Twitter is very powerful and while it is a social tool, it has changed the way I do business.

In addition, from the sports side of things, it is the new way that announcements are being made by prospects. As for following a high school or JC kid, I have and will continue to do so (Keeping in mind recruiting rules of course...). It is not as 'creepy' as some of you are making it out to be...each individual controls what they post and who they follow. It is definitely not like some reporters who would follow a kid into the shower just to get a story!

I know about Twitter and I understand the benefits it has.....especially regarding global communication in countries that strictly enforce media communication (i.e. Iran election demonstrations, etc).

However, you'll never be able to convince me that there's anything remotely interesting or cool about a grown man following the tweets of a high school kid. I'm pretty sure they have those to communicate with their friends/teammates.....not some 40 something dork that doesn't have anything better than to live vicariously through a high school athlete. Some of you need to seriously reconsider your priorities.
