Derek Jeter!

Jeter is much better than Ozzie Smith. Using Smith having fewer strike outs is a very weird way to try and justify him being better. An out is an out. Jeter's OPS+ for his career is 118, Smith's is 87. It's not even close.

As for top 3 SS of all time, I would have Honus Wagner, A-Rod and Ripken, Jeter would be right outside of those three, top five all time.
Where do you place Ernie Banks (1,125 games at SS) and Robin Yount (1,479 games at SS)? Do they get hurt in the evaluation because they switched positions like ARod (1,272 games as SS)? Just curious.

I would have them both right outside my top three, just like I had Jeter. Really its Wagner, A-Rod and then a big dropoff to the Ripken-Jeter-Yount-Banks group.

:eek:This pretty much destroys any credibility you had on the subject.

I think he's top 3. Wagner and Ripken at the top. A-Rod loses points for me because of the steroids. Hard to evaluate his career in light of that.

Game 7 of the world series. 2 outs, man on 3rd. Game tied in the 9th. I'm taking Jeter over any modern day SS as far as who I would want at the plate.....that includes A-Rod. Some things can't be measured by stats.

I just put more stock in a player's defense when looking to find someone at 2B/SS. It's not the ONLY factor, but if I'm building a team, it's the most important one. And each of the guys I mentioned play/played better defense than Jeter, and the only one who doesn't have the offense is Smith.
