Defend this staff

I have been very pleased with the defense this year (as I have been for the vast majority of the seasons under Ferentz), but this offense looks more & more stale each season. It just ain't working - at times, it looks like we are trying to bore the other team into submission. ZERO chance of explosive plays (except by accident or broken defensive schemes).

Gotta show me they are willing to try something else, or this staff will lose me (I'm already teetering on the fence).

You know how we had the Ice Bucket Challenge......maybe we start the Ferentz Buyout Challenge.

Imagine Iowa fans dumping ice-water on themselves pledging money towards a buyout. Wouldn't that be something. :) We can't (Kirk can't) ice the ISU kicker, buy maybe we could get a lot of cash flow that way.

Just a few months ago many on here wanted Brian F. to replace his daddy after he rides out of town with his $$ Millions.....ugh

I'm going to pay devils advocate here and defend the staff..............................................................yeah, I got nothing.

Besides losing a game we had no business losing, what's more discerning to me is ISU did not even play that great. I am at a loss. Can't defend this staff whatsoever.

Perspective is always interesting. We all saw the same game yesterday, most are very unhappy about it but we see it very differently.

Let me start off by saying I think Iowa has a superior roster but I felt Iowa had no little to no business winning the game. I missed the 1st quarter, so maybe I missed a great 15 minutes. From the box score it said it took Iowa's offense 16 plays to go 55 yards. Their second TD drive reeked of desperation, going for it on 4th and 8 from the 16. That isn't Iowa football. If it was about making things happen and being aggressive, than ok, I like it. But that isn't KF, never has been. He always kicks the FG. Conservative, good D, kicking game have always been staples of KF era. That decision was so far out of character it was a huge red flag for me. At that point I knew something was seriously wrong with this team. He doesn't even trust his kickers to make a 33 yarder.

From the time Rudock scored to give Iowa a 14-3 lead, I felt ISU was a far superior team. Iowa was lucky to have a chance to tie or take the lead late but it really didn't matter. Had ISU needed a TD on their final drive, nothing Iowa had done to that point would have lead me to believe they could stopped ISU from getting into the end zone.

I guess the one thing we are in agreement on is that there really isn't a way to defend this staff for what has happened.

I'm not too sure of the bolded comments but what the heck, Perspective is almost like reality.

I haven't seen a solitary defense of these fools on this site today. I've never seen that before.

I think at long last we've attained critical mass; the event horizon is breached.

That's probably because Jon is more of a basketball fan. ;) Seriously, I enjoy our bball coaching FAR greater than our football coaching. Plus they have cojones, which our football staff seems to lack. Not to mention our bball has an exciting brand of play, football is the inverse.

People weren't singing that tune (re: b-ball) in March...

Check out the rivals site. Still quite a few delusional Kurt fans over there.

I didn't even think about that till I read your post. I haven't seen a single post defending the coaching staff. And it's been a full 24 hours now.

After the terrible losses to Minnesota and Iowa State in recently years, we now have sunk to the level of losing to Central Michigan at home. I never thought the Western Michigan debacle would have been topped either but it has.

Kirk Ferentz, you simply make too much money for these garbage results.

I'd love to hear someone defend a staff who crapped the bed today in just about every way possible. Offense, defense, and special teams. Oh, and let's not forget epic clock management again.

I've stuck up for Ferentz in the past but I am officially done with him and his decisions. Greg Davis was a nightmare, and the program has gotten worse since 2008.

Fire away.
Someone nailed it back in the day. Outside of last season not a lot changes since this post.

9. Iowa

Not shockingly, Kirk Ferentz should have another really good O-line with the Hawkeyes. He has three starters back with a couple of former walk-ons who have blossomed into good Big Ten players in senior left tackle Cole Colston and Boone Myers the left guard. Junior Sean Welsh can play guard or center, but is expected to anchor the middle and should do so very well. He was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick by the league's coaches in 2015. Right tackle Ike Boettger (another one-time high school QB-turned-starting Hawkeye O-lineman like former star Brandon Scherff) has developed into being a solid player and strong run blocker after arriving as a tight end. Sophomore guard James Daniels should be a real force for the Hawkeyes in his career although he is coming off a knee injury.

Salt in the wound!

Sorry, but a program like Iowa should be able to do that and still beat Central Mich. by at least 2 TDs. Either we don't have the talent necessary (on the coaches) or we were ill prepared (on the coaches.)

I would like to double down on this comment. ( Substitute NDSU, Rutgers, or a down NW)
