Dearest Kurt

Well Smith was open for the long pass but CJ put it in a bad spot because he was nervous about being hit and didn't step into the throw. There were guys open at times that CJ missed. Line was better than the previous week. If they could figure out the protection issue which did move in the right direction, CJ and the receivers will look a lot better.

Remember that year we had a freshman lead the team in receiving?

But while we're on a Dear Kirk topic.

Dear Kirk,
When you get the ball back with a lead, 4 minutes on the clock, and the other team 0-2 timeouts, the goal is to get at least 1 first down, preferably two. You are not supposed to get stuffed, stuffed, sacked, punt. Then somehow get the ball back and do the same. Damn. Thing. Again, giving the other team a chance to win the game. I know they say that it's good to have a short memory after losses so that you can move on, but you need to learn from your mistakes, it cost you against NDSU, and almost did again today.
DEAD ON. How many times have we squeaked out wins, or had devastating losses with this IDENTICAL APPROACH? Good God, buy a set of testicles.

Dearest Kirk, if they are blitzing the crap out of you, every coach in the universe (but you, apparently), understands that if you can dump a couple screen passes to RBs against this, they usually go for big yards. This will then cause that rush to 'slow down' a bit, keep the defense 'honest', and therefore allow your QB some time, and your offense can start to fluorish again.

PS, Kirk, we also have some really good RBs to use in this manner.

I was thinking the same thing. I was also wondering where the screen passes have been. The coaches are not putting the players in a position to succeed.

Plus, we know the o-line has mastered the art of letting the d come right thru, so the d would have nothing to read there._.

Also, I thought a middle shovel pass would have worked against Minny on a couple occasions where they were bringing some rush. Would have been nice to try a couple times. Need to do something to slow them down a bit. Iowa's coaches didn't do any calls to help. Pass to the fullback a couple times or something.

What happened to that Drake Kulick. I thought he played WR in HS. I thought he was coming on strong. Pass it to him.
My point is that it's time Iowa has more options and diversifies the offense.

Kirk, please please please pass to the running backs at least 8 times a game. PLEASE!!

Why can't Iowa do a quick pass out to Wadley like they do to the WR when the d-backs are off them 10 yrds to see what he could do in space. Couldn't they line him up in the slot to step back to get that pass and see if he could beat a couple defenders?

Where has Jonathan Parker been? I thought he was healthy.

Why aren't they using Mitchell more?

I thought the play calling was a little less than desireable. I think the Iowa coaches could do more to help CJ.
Well we FINALLY ran out of a 3 WR set and Daniels walked into the end zone (Positive Result) and that was ONLY after the guys at the Gazette were asking the question. Ruddock was replaced by Beathard ONLY after alot of internet chatter and questions about who should be starting (12-0 in 2015 Positive Result). It would make total sense to ISO the Wadley out on an LB as he is too much for an LB to handle. I'm seeing a trend and it is in favor of giving the fans and guys at the Gazette part of that guaranteed contract money Kirk!

It's weird how it's like they don't want to waste plays on things like that but we're willing to run other plays time and time again knowing that they will be wasted plays a lot of the time. Who cares if we throw the ball to Wadley and it gains zero yards? Lots of our bread and butter plays gain zero yards.

We ran that play against ISU where Wadley was wide open for a touchdown and never see it again. It's possible we've tried it since then and it wasn't there but I would be willing to bet it's been once or twice at the most. Why not try it twice a game? Can't "waste" two plays calls on that one?

Agree. Sometimes plays are called in football knowing they may not have a positive result but will set up plays later in the game. YOu have to keep the defense off balance or guessing a little bit.

Where's the jet sweep? Where's a wheelroute with Wadley or Mitchell down the sideline. I suppose the blocking hasn't been good enough to sacrifice a RB to run a route, but c'mon, diversify.
