Dear Students

Agree with you 100% Kelley. It isn't just the students though. The entire crowd needs to bring it. Which means those big donors with seats up front need to get off their rumps and lose their damn voices. It's getting super annoying watching those front 5-10 rows sitting during big moments.

Exactly right. I hope the people sitting behind me don't mind because I will be standing most of the game. If they complain they can go to an usher and see if that works.

I agree. Although I am pretty certain they will be the same as they have been for the last 10 years, someone needs to light fires under those front seats. It's really too bad to see those spots given to people who droop and golf clap.

Solution: Let the students sit in the first 8-10 rows like most schools do now. Look at MSU, Nebby, Michigan, Duke … students all along the side behind both benches.

Exactly. This is what needs to be done if they are serious about taking the whole home court advantage to the next level. Screw the big donors. Ticket prices will go up if the team can continue to win. Turning Carver into a madhouse can only help the win totals. That will make up for the money being lost by big donors who pay for seats up close. Barta needs to recognize and address this problem at some point. Hopefully sooner than later.

I emailed Barta before the Carver Reno started and begged him to please get the students around the court. He is more than aware of it but for whatever reason ($$) has chosen to ignore this request from the majority of fans. I personally think you could still have a nice section for big donors somewhere and still do this. Something Midcourt about 20 rows up. To me these are the best seats anyway because you are close but can see the whole court very well too. Tired of beating this drum though, in all honesty if Fran takes this program to a couple sweet 16s then he will be the only one with the pull to push Barta in to this.

When you look at Crisler Arena games on TV, with the students strategically placed behind the benches the length of the court, it seems like a madhouse. Then, when they pull back, the rest of the crowd is like Iowa's donor crowd....placid. But, all that matters is the part of the crowd on TV....and Crisler looks like Dukes arena on TV.

Please jack up the noise tonite....top ten teams do not come all that often to Carver....twice this year...Michigan and MSU.

Edited: I just emailed him. Maybe anyone who feels the same way should shoot him a quick email. It may not change anything, but it can't hurt. Fran has turned the basketball program around. The excitement around the game tonight is electric. Something as simple as strategically placing the students around the court should not be a difficult concept to grasp. The players and coaches deserve it.

We all know Fran will not stop putting the heat on the officials. Having a student section surrounding them in all directions can't hurt either.

I really don't ever email guys like Barta but figured what the hey just because it was before the reno started. As I said though, at this point if this really were to ever come to fruition it would have to be Fran that leads it and tells Barta that is what he wants. He really is the only one with the power to push for this change. That said though, the students need to make sure they show up more consistently and prove they could fill an area like this every game or it'll never get done.

I don't expect to change much, but silence isn't going to change anything. It can't hurt hearing from a lot of fans about the same issue. I'm sure it's something Fran would support as well, but right now he has more important things on his plate.

I would like to see this done too. But Barta is not the first AD at Iowa to have this pointed out to him. For some reason it doesnt get done. Im guessing the Money must talk pretty loud. As much as I would like to see it. They did just build us a first class practise facuilty and remodle of Carver

The students have started to arrive at Carver.

What a better venue than CHA....Bring it all game long.....get on the ref's, get on Izzo..........

Honestly, in the B1G? Breslin. Students circling the floor jumping around the entire game. Very difficult for visiting teams.

CHA needs to rock tonight. Maybe it will be the start of getting students to games and making CHA hostile to opponents again.

When will we put the students on the floor all the way around. We have some WildCats at Iowa and they should be unleashed......

Place the elderly gentlemen and women up above the floor like most teams in college ball do. It is a huge advantage. I remember playing at Penn State their last game in their old arena. Russ Millard was trying to throw the ball in from the sideline and the students were trying to knock the ball out of his hands......

Refs just watched.....

Jack, as much as I'd love this -- as would most of us shallow-pocketed fans who rarely if ever make it to CHA and just about as often donate big bucks to the school we love -- I just don't ever see it happening. Not with Barta at the helm, anyway. He listens to the big guys and they want their seats down low so they can feel they are part of the scene, even if they rarely yell and their spouses sit there with their knitting or their book of the month.

The program has been at such a low point until the resurgence under Fran that it simply doesn't have the base of passionate support among students and non- or low-donors to boot the big money a ways up the stands. Barta needs the donations right now; hence, the current seating.

Maybe when Barta retires and a new, younger AD takes over this will happen. But not for a while.
