DC PF Luka Garza Officially Visiting This Weekend

Louisville also could recruit over top of him in July. Shoot, Iowa might end up going in a different directions. As of now, we only have one scholarship oen for '17. Lots of crazy things happen this coming month

Hmmm. Seems pretty accurate.

Just looked on 247 and it appears that a few of the people have changed their Crystal Ball predictions of Garza from Louisville to Iowa. Including one of the writers for the Louisville site. It appears they must be going all in on Malik Williams. The more I watch on Garza it appears he really is a late bloomer and seems to have a pretty big upside. I think he could end up being a really good get for the Hawks if we can bring him into the fold.

Maybe it is just me, but a class of CM and Garza doesn't really excite me. I know they are both ranked pretty high, and in Garza's case he has some decent offers. I'm not sure either of those guys will make an instant impact next year but I could be wrong.

I can't see anyone coming in next year making an instant impact. I like to think Iowa has quality players already in the program. Kriener and Garza could be a good one two punch at center next year. Both of those guys are going to be solid offensive performers. Kriener will probably redshirt this year, but a year on the weights and learning the system should do him wonders. McCaffery is going to have to contend against some pretty talented guys that will have a lot of experience. I could see McCaffery redshirting, but Garza probably will get his minutes.

Goodwin or Williams would make an instant impact if they came here for sure

Agreed. I'm still holding out hope. I suppose pulling in two four stars is nothing to be ashamed about either. Technically speaking we don't really know where that second scholarship is coming from.

If Garza comes to Iowa I think he will get his minutes. I can see the possibility of Iowa winning a game or two more if Garza came. I doubt Goodwin or Williams would make much more of an impact than Garza in their first year.

They would, by a lot

Hopefully we don't need instant impact from freshman and can rely on those already on the roster. If we need instant impacts every year from freshman to be successful, our program isn't looking too hot.

Probably because of the athleticism. A guy like Moss is easier to get excited over even if they won't necessarily be better basketball players.

I have to agree with 5656 on this one. Both those guys are what you'd call impact freshman. Both would most likely start at freshman. The chances of landing either is fairly unlikely but a man can dream. Check this out:

Pg: CW - 6'6 Jr
G: Moss - 6'6 So
F: Uhl - 6'9 Sr
F: Cook - 6'8 So
F: Williams - 6'10 Fr

Baer, Wagner, Jones, JoBo, Dailey, Ellingson reserves. That's would be a very interesting team.

Replace Williams with Kreiner and I'm still interested...even if Jones isn't around. And the following year they're all back but Uhl. There's going to be a lot of talent on the Iowa basketball team for the next few years.

Edit - And this starting line-up doesn't include Baer or Wagner. And I think both are good enough to start as juniors. There may be 8 guys playing about 25 minutes each. We can really get up and down the court if guys are only playing 25 minutes...not stating this as fact just thinking about how good and deep this team is going to be over the next 3 or 4 years.

If we don't land Williams. I'd start Baer or Wagner over Kreiner. But to your point about the amount of talent we will have I think there will be some natural attrition as well.

This is one of the few times I hope we don't beat out the likes of Louisville or Indiana for a recruit.

We aren't getting Malik so who do you want? Nunge? You think he is going to be that much better than Garza? Look at Garza's offers...there is a reason

Maybe it's someone off the radar, Maishe Dailey wasn't a name thrown around at this time last year and he shows a lot of promise after his body develops. Could be a transfer, or grad transfer. I just don't think Garza fits into the mold of the rest of our team of being long, athletic, and able to switch on defense. He's someone who would have to stay on the post to defend and he's not athletic enough to be a rim stopper. I'd much rather have our last line of defense be a true rim stopper like Olesani and I don't think we had to compete with a bunch of blue bloods to land him.

You want another Olesani? That wasn't a two way player until senior year and disappeared in the second half? That's an interesting want. We are a much better program than when we took him so we need a much better recruit. Pretty sure if blue bloods want Garza, there is a reason.

One scholly freed up from Jok and as of now one coming freed up from Jones (though a 6th year looks likely) also wouldn't be surprised at all to see a transfer.
