Davis is Ferentz worst decision

I listened to the On Iowa podcast with Morehouse and Dochterman who I think are objective and good. Their analysis of the Iowa offense as of last Saturday has increased my already high level of negativity. Morehouse said it sucked many times and Dochterman graded it out at D- to F. They just had nothing positive to say about the offense

Clearly we are not a talented offensive team but I submit a good imaginative Coordinator could get us to 8 wins with this team and with this schedule and maybe in a more entertaining way? Davis is not that coordinator. Our offensive schemes just are conservative and predictable. Anyone that couldnt run against Iowa State's horrible defense is proof enough

Davis reminds me a bit of Woody Hayes in his last few years when the game passed him by. He still had great talent but a junior high passing attack. I wonder if Davis will punch anyone this year?

I would say the naked bootleg in the end zone with Stanzi against Northwestern was probably his worst decision. That could have been KOK though.

Anyone claiming Kirk could leave or be fired at the end of this year or any year upcoming and still maintain his "legacy" is out of their mind. That day has passed.

Kirk Ferentz is 38-45 as a head coach without a guy named Norm saving his bacon. Kirk hasn't even won a bowl game without Norm by his side.

Never in the history of the coaching profession has a head coach benefited more professionally and monetarily for being as bad of a coach as Kirk Ferentz is. Has there ever been a head coach anywhere who has been carried as much by an assistant like Norm did for Kirk? The money he has been paid vs. his actual worth and skills as a coach is an abomination.

There isn't a single Power 5 school that would hire this donkey if we sent him packing at the end of the year yet he is one of the top 10 paid coaches in the country and would be paid more in a buyout than 5-6 people with degrees and white collar jobs would make combined in their lifetimes. It's beyond disgusting.

If you think the bottom was 2012 you've seen nothing yet. At least we were in year one of a new coordinator, had some injuries and could - on some level - throw the year away as an aberration. That won't be the case for 2015. This is the 4th year of the Davis experiment. There's been enough time to recruit the player's you need to run the offense. There are no excuses.

When your first team O gets ZERO TD's vs. the first team D, which at best will be mediocre, in three scrimmages the writing is on the wall. You just have to allow yourself to see it.

Buckle up Iowa fans. The Titanic is about to leave port and there's an iceberg out there with our name written all over it.

Hiring good assistant coaches make HC look good, hiring poor assistant coaches don't. Hayden was a legendary great coach, his assistants helped with that.

Name me a great HC that didn't have great assistants.

Norm was a elite assistant coach, and undoubtedly played a massive role in the success the Hawks have had in the past. Norm leaving was an enormous loss.

Hiring Davis has shown to be a massively bad fit. That's on KF.

Ask my wife, I yell at the TV for that play every game when they are on the goal line. If executed well, it's excellent.

Hiring Davis was a massive failure. Think of the two offensive philosophies they were trying to mix. Ferentz with the huddle, QB under center, run to set up the play action, ball control to control the clock vs Davis, no huddle spread, fast paced, shotgun read and short routes to WR to make plays or WR options. This was a colossal failure to happen folks. Vinegar and water. KF relied on TE's to and Davis the WR. Trying to mix the two was never going to work. Seriously, who tries to mix these two different kinds of offense philosophies?
What a f'ing train wreck!!!!!!

You can thumb up me now, thank you!!

Nah. People would embrace him completely in a few years. Human nature, Iowan nature...and that is not a bad thing.

Yes, but exposing your QB with his back against the endline against an all-conference D End is not. Knowing your opponent is key to the right play call.

In a very weird way, I still respect him and want him to succeed. I think he is a good individual by nature, but, I think the time has passed him up and Iowa hasn't been relevant in years, and that's even on the BIG network coverage. I hate it. I like the guy and want him to bring us back but just don't think it will happen anymore. I really hate to see his legacy at Iowa go down like this, but 90% of them do.

When coaches succeed b/c of their assistants, they all revel in the success....Iowa not so much, to win is to try different ideals, adapt to what's going on around them....KF will forever be known as a lineman's coach b/c of his NFL experience, which is ok, but what happened to the rest of the team? Coach Davis has been a complete failure and his ship has sailed.....there is no more ingenuity when it comes to his game plan.....we are not as tough as would like to be....Iowa is in the tank and we are a mediocre team w/ a mediocre coaching staff....What I stand up for are the kids that want to be Iowa Hawkeyes.....it's just too bad our coaches cannot honor that...

Davis offense with Ferentz offense......it is like trying to mix a bulldog with a shitzu......you get ********.

My slogan is this. I've come to believe this is the singular issue at Iowa. KF is responsible for securing talent.

It's the talent, stupid.

This isn't Davis offense or Kirks is a mixture of the two. Its also Kirk keeping his guys in place instead of the more talented but less intelligent ones.

Either one separately would be better than what it is.

In the end its entirely on Kirk. He brought this mess on himself and it had to be the most lame brained plan ever.

News flash: Woody Hayes ALWAYS had a junior high passing attack:) But when you win multiple national championships no one cares. Kind of like no one really cared about all of these things they are crying about now when we were winning more games. If we were winning and going to BCS caliber bowl games no one would complain about the stuff they complain about now.

I am betting no one cries about the boring offense Bo Ryan runs at Wisconsin. At least no Wisconsin fans complain about it, I would wager. If we could win at Iowa consistently (translation being eight wins in a DOWN year) fans would talk about how we win with Lombardi-style football.

Sure, but it's rare to win in college football playing the kind of O that Iowa does.

Most of the teams that win allot of games are scoring allot of points.
