Davis is Ferentz worst decision

News flash: Woody Hayes ALWAYS had a junior high passing attack:) But when you win multiple national championships no one cares. Kind of like no one really cared about all of these things they are crying about now when we were winning more games. If we were winning and going to BCS caliber bowl games no one would complain about the stuff they complain about now.

I am betting no one cries about the boring offense Bo Ryan runs at Wisconsin. At least no Wisconsin fans complain about it, I would wager. If we could win at Iowa consistently (translation being eight wins in a DOWN year) fans would talk about how we win with Lombardi-style football.

I was complaining after every game in '09. Of course I was happy to luck out the win. But for me it didn't hide Kirk's flaws, and it shouldn't have for Barta either.

I want to see KF succeed, but there are too many BIG teams that have passed him by. Those teams are doing a better job of evaluating, recruiting and developing "Iowa" type players. They are more innovative and less conservative. KF likes to "play the percentages" when in reality he doesn't even understand the percentages. The statistics clearly and overwhelmingly show that Iowa should take more chances on offense.

Kirk is just a few 3 yard passes on 3rd & 7 away from being punted himself, imo. It's too bad because he is a great fit at Iowa in every category except wins and losses.

Good post IH.

Yes, hiring Davis was a very bad decision for KF. Hiring a critical position very badly and losing the best coach KF ever had at a critical position, Norm Parker, and you have what we have at Iowa, a disaster. Could be a massive implosion or a wonderful recovery, I have no idea which. Data presented so far would predict the implosion. I hope the data is wrong!

What really annoys me is Kirk is one really good offensive coordinator away from being a really good coach. The right hire could have countered all of his bad qualities like aggression and clock management. Instead he hires someone who almost makes his bad qualities worse.

PC, that's exactly what I was referencing, good assistants make the HC look good......Davis had some great tools to use @ Texas, and frankly, he hasn't shown that side of brilliance while here in Iowa....time for him to go

I'm sorry, but the hiring of Davis isn't even close to KF's worst decision.

His worst decision, BY FAR, was sitting on the ball in the 'Shoe in '09 and playing for overtime. With a conference championship and a berth in the Rose Bowl only 35 or so yards away, KF didn't even attempt to go for the win. I'll never forget that as long as I live.

Yep, I predict 20 years from now I'm randomly going to think of that moment and get ****** off once again.

The Davis hire will just get mixed in with a bunch of other poor KF decisions, but sitting on the ball like that will be one of those forever-and-ever-haunting-me memories.

There are about 100,000 people that were there that day that will disagree with you.

The problem is Kirk was unwilling to relinquish control and run a modern O. No young innovative offensive coordinator is going to come to Iowa and be subjected to what KF wants to do.

Davis had no options other than retirement.

KF set himself up for failure.

Davis has lots of contacts in football, and I think it was a great career move for Ferentz junior. I don't think Davis is a bad coach, but I do think he takes orders from Ferentz senior.

Yes, Yes, YES!!

That whole "percentages" garbage he (and Dolph) occasionally spew over the last 15 years is just another example of their idiocy and ineptitude ... unless by percentages you mean frequency, rather than likelihood of success and situational reward.
