Darrell Wilson to Rutgers

I agree, it should have happened after '10. But better late than never I guess.

In the end this will prove one of two things, Kirk is a good coach and can turn this around or Kirk was mediocre and had good assistant's back in his earlier years (mainly Norm) and he won't turn it around.
Come on, man. You know which one it is. A good coach changes things before the bottom falls out.

I know Freed but I gotta have some faith that this will get better and get better SOON. I can't stand to see Iowa be as horrible as they were last season.

Since the end of last year:

OUT
KOK (OC)
Norm Parker (DC)
Kaz (DL)
Campbell (WR)
Wilson (DB)

That's five of the nine FT position coaches.
That's huge turnover. With turnover comes a period of time where they need to get settled in and all working together. Expect growing pains with mistakes, inefficiencies, miscommunication, etc. combined with the team we currently have... Things are not good in Hawkeye land. You wanted change, you got it. Enjoy

Good points you make. And that's why the changes should have happened at least two years ago.

Be honest everyone. Don't you think this is all happening to late?

The time to do this is when you suck, not when you are already horrible. You won't see the benefits of these changes for years to come since recruiting is what really matters.

I don't disagree but it seems just like a few years ago people were ******** about our coaches sucking and being here forever and how we need new blood. That started to happen last year and again this year but now it's that the program blows and those same "crappy" coaches are jumping ship. Too funny.

Also on the recruiting front both Woods and BF have been mentioned as big reasons why guys came here this year. So yes it should only get better but I think we are already starting to see the signs of it working.

Yes there can be growing pains with a new staff but after his second Rose Bowl bid Biff had to replace almost his whole coaching staff and then still came within a TD of beating Stanford in the Rose Bowl.

Freed, maybe he should have started after 2010, That is without a doubt the year we underachived the most. But he started last year. I thought he would go farther. But maybe he felt 1 position coach and both corridnaters were enough and maybe they needed to take a look at what they had and who they wanted to replace. But the staff wasnt all on the same page last year that is for sure. Why dont we give this new staff a chance and see if things start looking up this year ??

Sure, anything is possible. More often than not though high turnover usually has negative consequences until the new people can get on the same page and individually get familiar with their new position. Clearly, last years offense under the drippy derp was a horrendously good example of a new coach and a new system. Add more new coaches and I expect even more growing pains. Sunshines and rainbows baby

BF made some nice contributions early but I haven't heard or seen any evidence that Woods has been effective as of yet on the recruiting front. He had all recruiting season to bring in a few but ended up putting one fish on the stringer, Anjeus Jones, at the last minute when we were clearly in fall back posture. It's still early in his tenure so we'll see what happens the next go around.

As far as the recently discussed Kennedy and Reid ............I haven't read much that would label these guys as strong recruiters nor would they represent much toward a youth movement on the staff. As more and more programs build their staffs with a gunslinger or two (and are wiling to pay for them) we seem to be moving as usual on the recruiting front.

It will be interesting to see if we continue the same geographical focus as I think B Ferentz is going to have a more challenging time in OH with more programs spending more time in this state due to OSU looking outside of the state for more of their stars. You also have recent coaching changes at Purdue and Kentucky where their coaches have strong ties in Ohio and are known for their recruiting prowess. You can also throw in the Louisville program which is on the rise and is spending more time there as well.

Only getting tougher and we need to improve our weaponry.

I think OK4P needs to nominate this for football post of the year. You hit the nail on the head. Yes, it should have happened sooner but it didn't we need to relax and move on, just like the program is now. Maybe it won't work out but maybe, just maybe it will. If so, then we would all be happy!

I just read where Bob Stoops let three long time ast coaches go this week, and hasnt replaced them yet. I cant see where how KF is handleing this is so out of the norm.

First of all, it's been widely speculated for quite some time that these guys would be gone. So it isn't like Ferentz just told Wilson he's out.

Second, if I'm the kind of guy who prefers to sit back and think through a very important decision in a thorough manner should I make a quick decision just because that would appeal to the fans? Sorry but that idea is ridiculous. We all know Ferentz takes his time when making a decision. I dont know about you, but if that's what makes him feel the most comfortable with the situation then I'd prefer it that way. Sure it would be nice to know, but what good does that do? Football doesn't start for a long time and there is a TON of coaches out there. If you are butthurt because you don't know what's going on then that's your own problem. By now you should expect this.

Those same people would probably tell you that it's an even worse omen that crappy coaches are bailing on the program for greener pastures..

Anyhow, for better or for worse, we're getting a staff shakeup. When coming off a 4-8 season, maybe change isn't always a bad thing.

I'm always surprised Wilson stuck here as long as he did when you take into account Wilson ended up at Iowa after Alverez fired him after one season with the BADgers. Especially when you add in the cluster**** of a special teams Kurt has had under Wilson and Erb.

morehouse retweeted something from Rucker that he was surprised that Wilson was gone, so take that with a grain of salt.

Are they bailing or did coach Ferentz ask them to seek employment elsewhere?

People will believe what they want to believe but few know the truth.

I was one that was all for change after the 2010 season. Then I saw Greg Davis hired as the OC, and I realized how bad things could really be if Kirk continues to replace the current staff with coaches like that.
