makes him available instantly? Could also be part of the reason for leaving now. I am a Cully fan, but cant deny that Bryce has earned the starting spot.So this is a good opportunity/ time for Cully to move on, we are gonna sign a pg thats gonna be our future this or next year, good time to find a better place to get mins. no controversy!!

Where do people get these crazy ideas? He was on scholarship the whole year at Iowa. Regardless of whether he sat out the year or not, he has to sit out a year if he transfers to another Division I school. Plus, he played in about half-a-dozen games.

Wegher would have had to sit out a year at Oklahoma and all he did at Iowa was attend media day.

Cully will need to sit out a year if he transfers to a D1 school. However, he can still file for a medical waiver to regain last year's eligibility. So instead of being considered a RS junior next season, he will be a RS sophomore. Then he sits a year, he will be a RS junior and will get likely 2 years to play 2 years. Unless he gets some other sort of Jess Settles clause. If he does not get the medical waiver, worst case scenario would be he could use a transfer waiver and still be a RS junior. I'm not an expert on it, but I don't think he can use both and play 3 years. Columbus - can you help out on this? I'm thinking he gets 3 years to play 2 after the transfer.

That was one of my first thoughts, he might be near thirty before he is done with college, plus I would hate to have to list all of the schools on my resume to. LOL

I think he should be able to RS and then play 3 years if he gets the medical RS. Otherwise, what's the point of getting the medical RS?

I believe Wegher walked on at OU and was going to be able to play actually. Cully would have to walk on. He could get a hardship waiver, but I doubt it.

Cully's five years to play four began when he enrolled at Iowa. Without a "medical hardship" waiver, Cully has played two seasons and would have two years of remaining eligibility.

Is Cully eligible for a "medical hardship" waiver? I do not know! According to NCAA regulations, a player is eligible for a "medical hardship" waiver if

1. The injury occurred in the first-half of the season;

2. The player participated in less than thirty percent of the teams games; &

3. The injury prevented the player from competing for the remainder of the season.

Obviously, Cully's situation meets the first two conditions. There maybe a question with the third condition. If Cully does petition for a "medical hardship" waiver, the NCAA medical staff will review his medical records to determine if he was able to participate in games before the end of Iowa's season.

A Purdue wide receiver (the name escapes me) was denied a waiver because the NCAA medical staff determined that the individual could have participated in games before the end of the season.

It is my gut feeling, nothing more, that the "medical hardship" waiver was an issue in Cully's transfer. With reports on this board of Cully playing pick-up games at the recreation center or wherever, the "medical hardship" waiver is a big question mark.
