Cubs' Lou Pinella to retire

I don't think it is spin, but I can see where someone would think so. Lou is 67 and looks ready to be done.

Not to totally change the subject, LaRussa is in the last year of his deal as well. Buster Olney mentioned LaRussa as a possible replacement for Lou. I don't see it (or want it), but is it possible? What do you think of LaRussa's future?
I would be floored if LaRussa went to the Cubs. I think the Cards have enough on the field and in the pipeline to warrant him staying in St. Louis for awhile.

And seeing Joe Torre wouldn't make me happy either.

i think the cubs will go for someone big here and unfortunately ryno won't get the job.

if they play it the safe way though ryno gets it

I'm not the smartest of posters, but I really felt back in July that Quade should have a shot at the job in 2011. Today's announcement could be good news. He's a sharp baseball man, though not a "name". He did a great job at AAA Iowa previously, and proved he can work with big leaguers, too.

Too bad for Ryno. Perhaps the Pirates or another club will take a shot at him. He also was outstanding in his managing at AAA.

Is it too much to hope for Ryno as bench or third base coach at Wrigley next year?

If Ryno is not selected for the Pirates or Jays job, what does he do? Coach third for Chicago, take a bench job elsewhere, or return to Iowa one more year?

I'm sure a Hall of Famer has an ego, but he tucked it in the last few years to manage in places like Peoria and Des Moines. His work away from the field for homeless shelters in DSM this summer was extraordinary.
