I will preface this by saying I am a big Cubs fan, always have been. I'll be 30 in two months and they are the only team I have ever liked. Likely will remain to be the only team I ever like.
But I am so F*ing sick and tired of them. It's the same crap every single year. They cannot hit when it matters and the bullpen is bad. It's been this way for years. It sucks to be a Cubs fan, it really sucks. Cubs fans are among the most dedicated fanbase in all of sports and they are never rewarded for it. Nobody in the organization seems to care. They continue to spend money stupidly and do not do the neccessary things to compete at a high level. I'm not going to quit being a fan or quit watching them or anything, I think I just have to quit having ANY expectations for them EVER. I also feel horrible for subjecting my 2 year old son to them and likely turning him into a Cubs fan and setting him up for a lifetime of disappointment.

I believe that this is the most important point. They say they are spending money to make us better, but giving 4 players nearly 60 million is ridiculous. Those players are not performing. I would rather see our payroll around 90 million with young guys that can play, but may not be studs quite yet.

I agree, they sign these free agents to huge contracts when they are coming towards the end of the career. Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Fuk, Bradley last year. You could just go on and on.
They have some good talent in their minor league system. But they bring guys up for glimpses in the big leagues and then they bounce up and down until they are ultimately traded or gone because their contract is up. They rarely maintain good position players from their farm system on their major league team. I can see them trading Colvin this year.
This game today has just gotten out of control. 13-1. At home. Hate it.

If they get rid of colvin they are truly idiots and Hendry needs to get canned. They get rid of all their talent for midseason trades and it just never works out. I would love to see Jake fox at 3B right now. The problem is to that most guys have no trade clauses, and who would want them anyway. We ahve some good young guys coming, Lee, Jackson, Castro, Cashner etc. But right now they won't get a chance due to large large contracts.
I didn't mind the contracts to Dempster and Lilly, but the one to Soriano is still mind boggling to me. I like Byrds' contract, he wasn't horrily expensive. Lee and Rammy were good gets at the time but I questioned the huge extension that Lee got a few years back. Fukudome won't be around after next season, and I think Soriano could get traded to the AL if the cubs are out of it.
I have had several posts suggesting trades if the cubs are out of it by trade deadline.

Sox fan here. Chicago baseball is terrible this year...it sucks,because this is a great baseball town when both teams are rocking.
Not a cub fan,but I have to admit that they will still be back in it this year,simply due to how many bad teams there are in the NL
With their payroll,the cubs do have the talent to contend for the wildcard and I suspect they will be in it til the end.
The Sox play in a tougher league and probably are already dead.

You greatly under estimate the Cubs suck factor...they can't even take 2 of 3 from the NL's low rents...AT HOME! Visiting teams come in and raid the fridge, drink our booze, steal the money off of the nightstand and knock up our women before leaving town...
