Cubs are saving money for a change

idk hawkfarmer, honestly I have not put much thought to it but he has been known to make deals like this. I think the Cubs still have some value in Marmol & Soto. I thought I read somewhere the Mets could be interested in Marmol, perhaps a deal for David Wright. Wright only has 1 year left on his contract and a club option for 2013.

Valid point. I can see him being a possible trade prospect. I think potential for trade is:

Byrd
Marmol
Marshall
Soto
Barney
Baker

that's about it

I think Cashner will end up in the bullpen and he may have closer stuff.

I heard a rumor about a Soriano for Vernon Wells trade. I'm for it. Both bad contracts, but a change of scenery could help both.

Who are they going to trade? The only prospects people want are the ones the cubs are unwilling to give away?

I agree with this. I wonder if the philosophy have having so many "untouchable" guys will change. We have had guys they we would never trade away like Felix Pie, and Corey Patterson. Every year someone was willing to give us something great in return. After they are a bust (Patterson did have one or two solid years) they get traded for much less. You could say that the organization has issues developing talent, or it could simply be that the talent scouting is poor. I'm excited to see if this new front office can find the next Petroia or Ellsbury instead of the next Bobby Hill or Gary Scott. In all fairness, Castro is already pretty darn good, but that had little to nothing to do with the Cubs ability to "develop" players.

There are some serious free agent OF's in the 2013 class, the cubs need to let Byrd's contract expire, then go grab from the pot of Bourn, Ethier, Kemp, Melky, Hamilton, Granderson (club option), Pagan, BJ Upton, Victorino, Quentin, and Swisher. Maybe snag 2 of the 3 positions as Soriano is signed through 2014, then the year after his huge contract expires, go find a LF. The SP's in 2013 are killer too.

I see more of a power hitting corner outfielder as the team believes that jackson is the future at CF. I hope they're right. I would love to see kemp, hamilton, Granderson or Upton.

No way do I want to see pagan in a cubs uni again. Also, I hate swisher. I think the Cubs will make a splash here, but if they do it needs to be a big one!

Hopefully Jackson does come in, in 2013 and makes a splash, affording the cubs to put more $ into pitching. It would be nice if Vitters came in as well and filled up the 3b slot. Soriano's contract couldn't end soon enough, it is just haunting.

I hope the new manager doesn't feel like he has to play Soriano just because he makes so much money. Watching him play left field always raises my blood preasure. And when he has two strikes, we all know he is getting a slider low and away and yet he swings 9/10 times. I think his days of carrying a team for a month or so are long gone. Can't wait until he's gone.

If they can not get rid of Soriano then I am hoping for a lefty/righty platoon with LaHair in left field.
