Are not good. Haven't been. They need to be sellers, but who can they afford to sell?

I think everyone but Castro should be on the block. Who do I think has a realistic chance of being traded:

Soriano (12%)
Zambrano (40%)
Ramirez (0%)
Dempster (60%)
Pena (75%) I really hope the cubs bring him back next year (2 or 3 year contract)
Soto (5%) The cubs can't afford to start completely over
Byrd (0%)
Fukudome (10%) Last year on the contract and has limited trade contract
Wood (0%)
Baker (40%) he's versatile and having a good year

I don't think anyone else has a chance of being traded.

Why do you have Ramirez at 0%, I think he's got the best chance of anyone to be moved.

I personally think you've undervalued Baker as well. Not only is he versatile and having a good year, he's a pretty cheap option for any contender.

I'm not convinced Wood is a 0% chance either. I get that he has a no-trade and wants to be in Chicago, but I bet he'd at least consider a trade to Texas for a couple months if they came calling.

He has a no trade clause and said many times he will NOT let a trade happen-Also he's in the last year of his deal, with a 2 million dollar option he would like to collect on. Also, Baker is a guy I think the Cubs like and like you said he is cheap and they probably won't get much for him. I went conservative at 40% but could definately be more.

I don't see Wood going anywhere, he took a pay cut to come back to the cubs, I don't think he leaves.

Ramirez and Pena are the most likely to go, although the Cubs could keep Pena and re-sign him next year if they miss out on Fielder. In any event, the team has an option to buy Ramirez out for 2 million or so at the end of the year, so he's playing his last games in a Cubs uniform anyway. They're more likely to re-sign Fukudome than they are Ramirez, which I would be in favor of.

That's the team option to buy him out. If they re-sign him, it'll be for around what he's making now.

This is true, as the Cubs could very easily re-sign him next year.

Stole this from someone's facebook status.

*NEWS FLASH!!!*Engineers are at this moment being rushed to Wrigley field in Chicago to shore up the stadium before thursday's home game. Fear is the stadium will implode because the Cubs Suck so bad this year!!!

I am not sure why anyone on this team is untradable (contracts and no trade clauses notwithstanding). I realize that there are some players who will not be traded like Castro. This article says it all ... bad pitching, fielding, and hitting.

The Cubs have:
- 2nd worst record in MLB (37-55)
- the highest ERA by starting pitchers (5.29)
- the most errors the majors (77)
- hit into 88 double plays
- the least walks taken in the NL (223)
- the most walks allowed in the NL (349)
- won only 2 of their last 19 series (one was a 2 game series vs. Fla)

Chicago Cubs lose 9-1 to Pittsburgh Pirates - chicagotribune.com

if ramirez is traded, his option for next year automatically kicks in. that is going to turn off most teams.

Guys that should be untouchable (IMO):

Castro
Barney (I really like him, he's young, and he's got a good chemistry with Castro)
Marmol (One of the better closers in the majors, when we can get the ball to him. Also still young.)
Garza
Cashner (He's had some trouble staying healthy, but I like his stuff, and he's not being counted on the way Prior/Wood were, so no real harm here.)
Marshall (One of the best setup men in the game, (again) if we get him the ball)

After that, just about everyone should be available, even though some of them have little/no chance of moving (Rammy), and Pena is a guy that I wouldn't mind keeping.

One player left off this list is under-the-radar Reed Johnson. I believe he's only on a 1-yr contract and if I remember correctly he's hitting well over .300 and has a .900+ OPS. Could potentially get a nice return in the trade market for a team that is desperate for outfield depth.

Soriano = 0%

No one is touching him

This isn't a very well thought out statement and quite simply isn't true.

There are several teams in the AL that Soriano would make a lot of sense for, specifically the Yankees. They could really use another bat. Their current DH is Posada and he's hitting .102 off lefties, that ain't gonna cut it. Soriano is well liked in club houses and is still a productive player offesnively.

The Cubs will have to pick up a chunk of his contract going forward but it makes sense for them to do so.

Likely to be traded are Jeff Baker, Reed Johnson, Grabow, and even Blake Dewitt.

Possible are Soriano and Fukudome.

I could also see situations in which Wood is rented out for a month or two.

I would say Pena is likely to be traded as wel

Pena is without a doubt the most attractive person on the Roster from the prospective of other teams. I'm not convicned he isn't in the Cubs long term plans, but that said that wouldn't prevent the Cubs from trading him now, and resigning him to a 3 year deal in the off season. The problem is Prince and Poo-holes are going to drive Pena's number through the roof.

If they get 20+ million why souldn't he get at least 12-15?

I'll go the other way and say that Matt Garza is the most attractive on the roster. His W-L doesn't exactly drive that home, and he's probably not "officially" on the trade block, but I would bet the Cubs would at least listen to offers for him because of his stuff and experience. It would probably have to be a pretty good package to get him, but if a team was willing, why not pull the trigger?
