Crean Out at Indiana

Indiana basketball = Nebraska football

No, not even close. The entire state of Indiana eats, sleeps, drinks basketball and a good coach can put that program back on top very quickly. Indiana thinks they are a blue blood basketball program because that's what they are. They can maintain that status even if they decide to not recruit outside the state of Indiana.

Nebraska on the other hand is delusional and are still living in the 90s. Even if the entire state does eat, sleep, drink football there is a big difference filling a football roster with the talent to maintain a "blue blood" status when you home state is Nebraska.

That's a stretch. Indiana has been pretty decent overall over Creans 9 years. Nebraska has had a lot of turn over since their fall from grace.

Solich went 69-19 and got canned (80% winning). Pelini averaged 9 1/2 wins his last six years after rebuilding from Callahan's 27-22 run and he got canned. Now Riley is only 15-11.

Crean made 3 Sweet 16s in the last 6 years after cleaning up the Kelvin Sampson mess and he's canned.

It's not a perfect analogy (as none are) but both fan bases believe they're still National powers...and they're not. Both programs also fired coaches who were doing a pretty good job.

It will be interesting to see if they go after Alford...and if he'd make the move. Not sure I'd want to leave UCLA for Indiana.

Depending on how UCLA does in tourney, we may see Steve A at Indiana. Meaning, if UCLA tanks, the prodigal son may return home. If they go far, cant see him leaving sunny CA.

I think Alford loves the spotlight in LA...as long as they win. He's got the entire Ball clan coming on board, and he's going to get his pick of the litter in LA over his span there...that's a solid recipe and would be tough to leave for Indiana...even though he played there.

I'm surprised Crean got the boot honestly. Even with the injuries, that team should have been more consistent. I won't miss his sideline demeanor though...tough to watch.

They're saying on an Indiana message board (the place to find the best info, I know) that UCLA would waive the buyout clause in his contract for Indiana and that he's very interested. However, they say that the administration isn't exactly interested in him.

Here's a video Purdue fans did when it was announced that Crean would come back to IU before he was fired.
