Convince me we can beat the Zags

I think Uthoff and White are tough matchups for Wiltjer and Sabonis. Wiltjer doesn't seem to move his feet very well and will struggle to guard either IMO. Wiltjer will struggle IMO to score against someone like Uthoff, who can contest his shots and stay in front of him. I think that Sabonis is too slow to guard White and I see him getting in foul trouble. As we can see from the NDSU game, 4's that can handle the ball and attack give their slower big men problems.

The two keys to this game
1. Guards need to be able to make some tough shots
2. Limiting Karnowski by wearing him down with pace or getting him in foul trouble.

Good analysis. Wiltjer and Gonzaga as a team haven't seen the length of Iowa in the weak WCC. If I were watching these two teams yesterday and didn't know what seeds they were, I'd say Iowa looked like a 2 and Gonzaga a 7. Containing Pangos, IMO, will be one of the keys to our victory.

One of the things that got lost in last nights game is how well Woodbury played. I realize he had a size advantage which he has had before in games but this is the first time I've ever seen him clearly take advantage of it and be aggressive. If he can play like that against Gonzaga it could open up a repeat performance by White or for Uthoff to step up.

the Zags couldn't stop a 6'6" tub ball from going off on them for 22 points how the hell are they going to stop White, JU, and Gabe?

I just don't see us pulling off this upset.

Wanting somebody to make me feel better about the matchup.
The only reassurance you need is NDSU is not good. Give them a couple breaks and they could of taken down the Zags. They have depth, inside out game. Are they a B1G team competition wise? HELL NO. Their lack of playing top programs will haunt them in this match up. We have the length, we have the depth to match them. We have had been seasoned by better competition.

They key to this game is having a lead under the 10 minute mark...then all the press clippings and talk of them never advancing will be a like a chain of bricks sinking them to the bottom! I think hawks win...79-76.

Despite their size/depth they are average defensively. Pangos is a lot like Steve Nash, great shooter, good assist guy, but you are not getting a lot on the defensive end. Potential for Gessell/Clemmons to have really good games.

About the only thing I don't like about this matchup is that it is practically a home game for Gonzaga.

And a certain team played VERY well on the road this year......

They played a few good games on the road but I wouldn't say "VERY well", heck they did lose at Northwestern and I would love to pretend the game at Wisconsin never happened.

What game at Wisconsin? Are you sure we played them this year?

Given Iowa's recent road history I would say they did very well. I know not all the team we played were world beaters this year, but still @UNC and OSU and the blowout wins @Michigan, Neb and Indiana.

I'm not buying the whole Gonzaga doesn't get past the second round. Welp guess what, Iowa doesn't either according to history (heck Iowa doesn't win a first round game by this logic).

That said we matchup well with them. We can play our game, and I think the being used to playing quality opponents (Texas, ISU, UNI, UNC and the B1G schedule) will give us a big advantage, as they are used to playing cream puffs.

Based on their performance last night, they are not a FF team. Not sure if they were just having an off night or not, but if they weren't they are VERY beatable for you guys, and i'd think the way you guys are constructed you match up pretty well.

Ive watched them play 7 or 8 times this year, that's who they are.

Pangos is decent but he's not super quick or explosive. Mike and Sapp are pretty good on ball defenders anyway and he's not the typ that gives them trouble off the dribble.

the one thing we do have to watch for is to not get get sucked into the paint on post ups. Karnoski is excellent at finding open shooters from the post, granted hes used to towering over his defenders which makes it easier.

I get what your saying but Pangos is more like the guys we just faced from Davidson than he is like Steve Nash.

It's like comparing a Farrari to Miata.

Here is my argument why we can win...we are not a #16 seed.

i believe 16s are the only seeds that have a 0 percent winning percentage in the tourney. Even 14s and 15s win games just ask isu. So we have a chance and i think we can do it and hopefully we get to beat the fraud.
