Contact Iowa Corn!!

First don't now anyone from Iowa Corn so excellent observation.

May want to gain a little understanding about what the NON PROFIT Iowa Corn "corporation " is all about. They are here to stimulate and grow the corn market for those people that actually work instead of posting on message boards "2,694" times in less than 2 years. But hey, why would we want them to waist there time on that, because clearly their "Contact Us" is intended for football related issues.

If its going to get changed, it will be driven from the U of I and ISU, something that is clearly not understood by this collection of special people.

Either way, they have already succeeded in spreading their name to even to some of the simplest minded people. On behalf of the corn growers, thank you. Keep whining, it actually helps this great state.
GET OFF MY LAWN!

Yeah, but I bet if they hadn't come up with such a ridiculous trophy and had actually designed one that the fans liked, they would welcome all the accolades and positive comments. You can't have it both ways.

So how long you been working for the ICB? Go back to Mindy and tell her that your attempt at damage control has been as big a failure as your attempt to design a trophy.

On behalf of the "simplest minded people" I accept your wish for us to keep "whining" until that trophy gets recitified.

Oh BTW, Spellcheck can be your Friend! :D

If you're going to be hateful and call people "Simple Minded" you should probably find someone with a grasp of the basic English language, proper grammar and spelling. Making posts like that doesn't reflect well on your coworkers in the Iowa Corn office who probably can read and write.

I may be simple minded but I know the difference between waste and waist. ;)

Several observations:

1. Yes, it is a pretty bad trophy (obviously), but why is this so important to people? It is just a football game. Who the heck really cares about a dumb trophy. If they want to award a trophy (dumb or otherwise) who the heck really cares? IT IS JUST A FOOTBALL GAME. GET A LIFE.

2. The Iowa Corn people (who support a pretty big industry in Iowa, by the way) are just doing their job. The people at Iowa and Iowa State (in the athletic departments) sold the rights to this game to the highest bidder. For money. Iowa Corn paid to sponsor the game. A part of the deal, obviously, were the rights to design the trophy. Are you really surprised that the Iowa Corn people came up with this trophy? They are trying to promote their industry. The trophy is not a symbol of the game, but a symbol of their industry (an important one, by the way). Don't you people get it?

3. If you really want to be mad at somebody, file your protests against the athletic departments at Iowa and Iowa State. They are the people who sold the rights to the Iowa Corn board. You will see more of this in the future. These athletic departments must raise money to support their enterprises.

4. If you want to protest the trophy (which is a ridiculous waste of time), send letters or emails to the U of I or Iowa State, not the people at the Iowa Corn board. They are just doing their job - promoting an industry that is important to many Iowans.

Assuming that your comment I highlighted in red was meant to be sarcastic it seems to me that when they chose to sponsor the Cy-Hawk trophy they have, by default, chosen to step into the "football related issues" arena.

What is the purpose of this non-profit? Does anyone here really know or care if the high fructose corn syrup in their belt busting Coke was from Iowa, Nebraska or Illinois? If their delicious steak was fed with Iowa or Minnesota corn? If their car is being powered by Iowa or South Dakota corn-based ethanol? Absolutely not. The Saudis don't go around creating a bunch of makework for gals that ruins football trophies promoting Saudi oil over Kuwaiti oil. Corn is a fungible commodity, there is no need for Iowa Corn whatever to exist and certainly not as a tax exempt entity. If their goal is to grow the corn market they should be going to high schools advocating against safe sex and supporting the Vatican's attempts to outlaw birth control and abortion to increase the number of mouths to feed and folks who need fuel for their cars, not ruining football trophies. From now on, I will only eat Michigan, Illinois and Indiana corn. BOYCOTT IOWA CORN.

So tell me again, what does this trophy have to do with football? If it was made for some library, school, or other public building nobody would care.

This is supposed to be a trophy celebrating the Iowa/Iowa State rivalry. Why could they have not at least used a big ear of corn or a combine? That has something to do with corn.

Nobody wants to play for a "family". You think any player is excited to get the "family'? Floyd, yes. The Heartland Trophy, yes. This silly thing? Not a chance in hell.

Iowa Corn used this as a marketing op and failed. Like I said before, a ear of corn or a combine would have been a little corny, but nothing like the awful choice they made.

I sent an email a few days ago just for the fun of it.

In a bizarre sense of way all the negativity about that monstrosity gives Iowa Corn more publicity than if the women's center had designed a real trophy.

Just hope that when Iowa wins, Iowa Corn gives UofI fans time enough to leave the stadium before Iowa Corn embarasses them handing out that thing.

course isu fans will love the trophy...they love ANY trophy they might win because they win so few. They would probably even sweep the cobwebs out of their present trophy case. Pollard will probably keep a trophy like this on his desk just to reinforce his thinking that isu is relevant in college football.

Well stated. Thank you.

Nice about what Iowa Corn represents. I have no doubt they also were thinking and acting honorably.

It's just too bad that they let the women's centers from Iowa/isu design a trophy that looks like it is more appropriate FOR the women's centers rather than an athletic department trophy case or for display in a 4th grade art class.

When I saw the trophy for the first time I kept looking around for Ashton Kucher to pop out and tell fellow Iowans that we had just been punked. And after all the fun wore off, Iowa Corn would bring out the REAL trophy.

Then I thought that Iowa Corn misinterpreted what their goal was and designed this trophy to be awarded to the LOSERS of the game just so the losing team would be humiliated for one year.

Then I thought, why not just make arrangements to give isu the trophy regardless of who wins. Jamie Pollard would love to have the trophy just to show how relevant isu football is. Both schools would win.

Chosen...

I suspect the athletic departments of both schools (well maybe Iowa's anyway) are in a lot of contact with Iowa Corn since that "trophy" was displayed. Iowa Corn deserves the negativity just like they would have deserved the positives had they designed a real trophy.

Everyone in Iowa knows that the trophy represents their industry but there were so many different ideas about what could have been designed. For instance, they could have conducted a contest and let Iowans actually participate in the process by letting people send in designs and letting people vote. That is one idea.

But they let the women's centers at the Universities or a 4th grade class in Albia or an office member who is actually a Michigan fan design the trophy.

Too put this entire thing into perspective...EVEN isu fans don't like the trophy and they will accept any trophy just to have one.

I hope they take that trophy and put it on display in their main building and don't force either of the two teams to actually accept it.

That trophy also will represent Iowans and the national media will again get to make fun of the corn hicks from Iowa.

Iowa Corn is the sponsor. They don't care about your complaints.

If you want to complain, send a letter to the President or AD of the University.

Here's my email to Iowa Corn from their contacts page.

"I know. All you need is another complaint about the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry trophy. The thing clearly missed the boat. I appreciate the message that is trying to be sent & what it is supposed to represent, but the opportunity to honor two individuals on opposite sides of the ball & whose university stadiums are named after was clearly missed. Please strongly reconsider rescinding the current trophy. This can either be the laughing stock of each schools fans in the future poking fun or Iowa Corn can come out as heros developing a new trophy which will go a looong way for years in the future. You now have awareness, but you also now have a chance to make it positive awareness about Iowa Corn instead of animosity. May I recommend Nile Kinnick & Jack Trice coming out of a cornfield (al a "Field of Dreams") & onto an adjacent football field with their helmets tucked under their arms. You would have corn showcased along with the two legendary individuals. Thank you for your attention."

I am sure Iowa Corn does a lot of good for the industry but I hope they think twice before sponsoring a trophy again.

But I have to say even with this bad publicity they are getting their name out. Before this trophy was announced I had never heard of this organization. Now I have looked at their website and follow them on twitter. I definitely know who Iowa Corn is now.

Your ignorance is mind-boggling.

Using Iowa Corn's online form, I just sent Iowa Corn CEO Craig Floss a note thanking them for taking over sponsorship of the Cy-Hawk rivalry but saying the new trophy does not represent the football competition and encouraging him to work with Gary Barta and Jamie Pollard to come up with a new design that incorporates Jack Trice and Nile Kinnick. Both schools, and Iowa Corn, could be proud of that.

Iowa Corn and the two schools clearly laid an egg here. It's not too late to step back and come up with a new trophy. Stating that they are pursuing a design that honors the heroes of the two schools would be a great avenue out of the mess for them.
