Conservative football doesnt equal wins

In California? No way. Those cows are fed that hippie grass where they don't use unnatural methods to make the meat taste better. We need that jacked up Iowa beef that causes cancer as it slowly enters your stomach. I can do A1. Maybe some Worcestershire sauce as well? Spicy variety?

Works for me.

People love to make this counter, but Iowa isn't playing with that caliber of player. And in any case, I think Alabama plays more aggressively, especially on defense, than Iowa does. More blitzing, more physical pass coverage, etc.

People love to make this counter because it's true. Conservative football wins games. I don't understand why saying that you need superior talent to win, like this is some kind of joker-in-the-deck. Of course you do. You recruit superior talent, keep your schemes simple, and beat the snot out of people. That's how championships have been won for a hundred years.

You post as if I'm claiming that I'm justifying our strategem because elite teams are conservative. I'm not - we're not elite, so we need to compensate with creativity. However, if we ever get back to the 2009 level, we'll play conservatively, and rightfully so. Good teams win when they play conservatively.

Are you guys REALLY arguing that the turn over margin doesnt effect your chances of winning ? REALLY ??
Oregon proves you can play with reckless abandon (not obsessed with preventing the TO) and still win a majority of games.

The issue is not being conservative, most teams are conservative in the sense they punt on 4th down, and they dont blitz 10 guys on defense often if ever. Not every team runs a crazy spread and goes for it on 4th a bunch like Oregon, in fact most dont. Its just the new thing that gets attention.

The issue is execution. I will never understand how if the offense can't pick up a third and 3 all game long and have been awful the whole game that so many call for the Hawks to march it down field with a minute left and score a TD in the 4th. What about our offense makes you think we can do that? It will likely end up in a 3 and out and a getting beat in regulation instead of OT where at least we get in in the red zone already.

I can't believe there are people who think that with 1 minute to go, the defense has a better win then the offense. If the defense is favored in that situation it means that they are a much better team and if that's the case the offensive team would be huge underdogs in ot anyway.

Even in years where we have the talent to beat them by 20.

Kirks gameplan definitely gives us a better chance to win in years like last year but it also almost killed us in 09 and 02. And it did kill us in 2010.

You just summed up the source of my frustration with kf. Even when he wins it almost doesn't feel like a win because he wins so unconvincingly, not all the time, but a lot. Example: AR State from a few years back, NI from last year. He's a very unaggressive coach.

I can understand that frustration. You know the people that back KF dont agree with everything he does. You coulndnt find a coach that people agreeded with everything.

Going +12 in TOs is minimized if you get turnovers and then don't move the ball at all. All it did was make some of our losses a bit closer.

If Iowa tried to play like Oregon, they would lose every game. At no point in the entire history of Iowa football have the Hawks had the personnel to run an offence like that.

People really need to quit dissing outback.

I'm sorry, PC, but the quality if the steaks at Outback have really been going in the toilet for at least the last 4 years. Their menu changed. The steaks are smaller and even the filet was crappy. They probably use Tahoe fake filets now. You gotta find a new place.
