Conference Expansion

Columbus, this is what i was referring to. Atlanta's population is 6.4 mil. You're stat could also be right. I did say tv sets, but I made the leap that almost everyone has a tv.
Getting Atlanta would be huge for the BIG. I know Georgia Tech isn't the most athletically prominent team you could get, but at least they aren't Rutgers. To get that many homes, and get that far South would be a win win from the perspective of the people running the conference. Now I don't like ruining the tradition even more, so I'm not advocating this, but they already sold their souls when they added Maryland and Rutgers, so at this point it kind of is what it is.

The SEC would go absolutely nuts with Michigan & Ohio State visiting Atlanta every other year. Having the Bucks & Wolverines going into the SEC's largest TV would drive the SEC up a wall!

Yep, all the more reason the BIG would want to do it.

The SEC went ballistic over Harbaugh conducting spring practices in their territory. Do you imagine what it would be like for the Bucks to visit Atlanta in the middle of October!

I know, it's fun to think about. The best part is, there really isn't much the SEC can do to stop it from happening.

Saw Jon Miller reply to a tweet about Conference Expansion today. Some Michigan fan claiming it's going to happen soon.

When/if the day comes to add a couple more teams (and you were forced to choose), who would you add?

Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Notre Dame???

Pretty sure I read recently that Oklahoma would be a no go due to the academic stuff. I think they would love to get in but I don't think Big Ten would let them in due to academics and being a member of some organization. Can't remember the acronyms.

I think Georgia Tech would definitely be in the mix. Location and academics. And decent sports teams.

i just want the B1G to be the first in the clubhouse with the 16 teams in regards to having a super conference. We all know where this is heading i just rather sit back and watch others fight it out. i am not crazy about it, but it seems inevitable.

Excellent point. always good to be first to market. The more I think about it, Ga Tech makes sense. I forget the poster in this thread who wrote it, but have a footprint in SEC country would be gigantic. Plus, the tv market in ATL is huge. Having ND in the league and visiting Ga Tech every other season, along with UM, OSU and PSU, would get solid recruiting traction in that area. I'd say that kids that go to Ga Tech (typically) aren't turning down SEC offers, except from the lower level schools. So, getting a B1G (football) offer seems like it'd be highly prized vs an ACC offer.

The more I think about expansion, the more I like Georgia Tech & Texas. Put the Ramblin' Wreck in the east & the Longhorns in the west. The SEC would go absolutely nuts if Michigan, MSU, O$U & Penn State visited Atlanta on a routine basis. It would be a huge event in the heart of SEC country. The Spartans & Bucks go in one year. The Nittany Lions & Wolverines the next year.

Delaney would be laughing all the way to the bank. It would be a license to print money!
