Concession Bribe from Barta is a Joke

Sorry if discussed earlier but I haven't been on the forums much since last season.

So the $70 concession bribe from Barta for renewing tickets apparently is regardless of the number of season tickets purchased? WTF

So my family with 5 season tickets gets $2 per person (aka half a bottle of water) per game.

But the person with the single ticket gets the same $10 per game amount......

Thanks for showing your appreciation for those of us supporting the program (season tickets since 1989)

Rant over....

I just called the ticket office to confirm that it was supposed to be that way.

Lady on the phone confirmed that was the case and seems confused as to why I was annoyed.

I am confused as to why you renewed your season tickets, but that is a different rant all together . :) but I would be annoyed as well. You are the people Barta should be kissing your a$$$es, and making sure you are happy!!

i don't have season tickets, so i'm not 'up to speed' - how was this spelled out originally?

i just read an article - and it reads like it is 'per ticket'........but was there some 'detail' in the information you received as a season ticket holder?

I am not sure it was ever detailed specifically and I am pretty sure we didnt keep any of the emails or letters from them.

I sent an email to Barta and included the ticket director, associate AD for donor relations, and marketing director on the email.

I am sure I won't get any meaningful feedback........but don't worry I am sure I will get hit up for fundraising to renovate the North endzone so that more big donors can have suites and beer.

That's F'ed dude!

I'll be thinking of you Saturday from my comfortable air conditioned home in my cushy recliner in front of my HD TV with a bathroom all to myself. :D

The seats at Kinnick are not "cushy" for sure......but based on ticket sales I am guessing I will have some room to S P R E A D O U T. which is good because if it is 92 degrees, I don't want anyone touching me.

Perhaps I need to append my initial post to get more thumbs up.

Seems like a dumb thing to be worked up about.

The guy buys 5 season tickets and if he's getting only $10 like the guy that buys only one season ticket, that's messed up. The Iowa admins, for some reason, seem to have difficulty seeing these kinds of things.

Reminds me of how I used to rant about how families of 5 with 3 kids in the school system were paying less taxes than me when I was single and obviously not using the schools. Seemed pretty unfair to me, but I was told to shut up and get a soul as I was a heartless and cruel SOB who hates women, children and minority's.

Man I miss Vintage.
End rant

So would you rather live in a place where the local kids go to school or one where they don't?

Would you rather spend your time in a Kinnick environment with fans who are focused on the game and cheering or with lards who spend a quarter waiting in concession lines to get a slice of pizza and a pop?

This was a dumb promo. If your decision to renew tickets was influenced by $70 worth of overpriced food chances are high you're not gonna be around next year anyway.

For those interested in the Athletic Department email response:

thanks for your note and thanks for ordering season tickets again this year. I can assure you—WE DO APPRECIATE OUR FANS!! And we are doing a number of nice, different things that I hope will demonstrate that. However, back in February—coming off a couple of miserable loses—we were all probably grabbing for anything that even looked like we were appreciating our fans.

Maybe in retrospect we should have just passed on this idea. Bottom line—we really were just trying to do something nice. I think our thinking was—well, 10 bucks is 10 bucks—better than nothing. But the feedback has not been quite that easy.

I have been doing this for the Hawkeyes a long time. I am first and foremost a FAN—growing up in small town Iowa—I understand how lots of our fans feel about certain things.

But, I can assure you there are a million moving parts to running this department—some days you win, some days you take your lumps.

Right now—I just want a win Saturday!! I might not be able to breath prior to kick-off.

Thanks Mike—On Iowa Go Hawks.

Not a bad reply. Gotta say.

Yeah I still don't get the anger. Reminds me of this guy I used to work with. As a Christmas bonus, the owner offered to put the employees and their significant others up at the Riverside hotel and give them $100 in chips at the casino. One of the guys was a bit disgruntled and opted not to go. After the fact, he had the gall to tell the owner that he should be paid for the amount that was saved by him not going. I just don't get how people feel that they are entitled to gifts. I imagine these are the types of people who get angry because their birthday party didn't have a bounce house.
