my initial response was the same, but after reading Jennings' response (nice he gave a substantive response), I'm cool with what they did. they are trying. just, please, no more red and white pom poms for the Wisconsin (or Nebraska) game next time they're in town.
For a program that for years had to do nothing to get people in the seats, this is a start. it's not a surprise they aren't great at it, yet, because they haven't ever had to even try, let alone, do. i'll give them a pass on this. baby steps. they were still living in a bubble at the time of the greg davis hire, like a bloated bureaucracy (oops, is that wading into politics?).I disagree that they are trying. Sure, you can look out amongst the unwashed masses of Iowa fans and think "hmm, a free tenderloin and a bottle of high fructose corn syrup will appease these folks." Actual trying would have involved things like not letting Ferentz hire Greg Davis. Or perhaps not taking away my seats in the reseating.
So would you rather live in a place where the local kids go to school or one where they don't?
Would you rather spend your time in a Kinnick environment with fans who are focused on the game and cheering or with lards who spend a quarter waiting in concession lines to get a slice of pizza and a pop?
This was a dumb promo. If your decision to renew tickets was influenced by $70 worth of overpriced food chances are high you're not gonna be around next year anyway.
If they truly want to put fans back into the seats start by lowering the ticket price. I feel $50 for Big 10 games and $30-$40 for preseason games would be more in line for our program for season ticket holders. Single game tickets could be higher like the IaSt game should be a $90 ticket for them to buy. Then they can keep their concession coupon.
My big issue with the $70 in free concessions is that the food at Kinnick is absolute dog food. What do you want...a crappy slice of pizza or a bag of doritos with taco meat, lettuce and salsa stuffed in it? The food sucks, but at least this year you get vouchers to make it cheaper? That makes sense? How about instead of adding more tv screens to shove more advertisements in our faces they actual upgrade their concessions?
The biggest downfall of college football attendance is the lack of respect for the fan. Bleacher seats that stuff you in like sardines, long bathroom lines, crappy concession stands, no alcohol...these are things of the distant past. With large HDTV's in every house, the better experience is starting to become staying at home. For some reason the colleges refuse to get with the times...probably because they're making so much on tv revenue they don't give a sh*t.

LOL you ***** about the upgrades at Kinnick, and then ***** about the concessions. Then you ***** that there should be upgrades done at Kinnick. God, when people are upset with a product they will ***** about anything they can think of.
I didnt ***** about the upgrades...they're upgrading the wrong things. Minnesota has had absolutely no issues selling booze during games, and their stadium is right on campus. They also have actual bucket seats along with bleacher seats in the cheaper sections.
My point, which you clearly missed, is that they're upgrading the screens so that they can shove more advertisements in our face, meanwhile ignoring the reason people aren't coming to the games in the first place
