Patrick, Jon, what's your overall take on CJ Fed? Reading between the lines of Patrick's analysis it's not clear where he fits yet. I thought we'd see him play a bigger role this year but his action was largely limited to special teams (I think I did hear his name at least twice if not more for tackles on KO returns at the Insight Bowl, which was encouraging.)
What I liked Jon was your statement about mixing up the playcalling, ie not tipping our hand with what formation we're in. The off tackle play is really key.
I think most of us that complain about KOK or the offense really just want to see some of these type of changes. Yes KOK can make a odd call, but mostly this year Stanzi made the bad decisions. Just cause a pass is called, doesn't mean you have to try and complete it, especially with a lead.
I really hope you're correct about JVB being able to process and read defenses better than anyone since Tate. Imagine if we would have had Drew the past two seasons with the WR group....
Am I correct that these QBs have this amount of eligibility remaining? If Vandenberg is the presumed No. 1 after spring practice, do we risk Wienke transferring?
Vandenberg -- two seasons left
Wienke -- two seasons left
Derby -- four seasons left
CJ will really have benefited from the bowl practices, will benefit from the spring a lot too. i expect for his blocking to be exponentially better, and his ball skills are already at a high level for the position.
He should play a lot in 2011 IMO. As Patrick pointed out, there were instances in 2011 where he showed indications of being a devastating blocker down the line. Moekai arrived on campus with those abilities, and size and strength, which is rare for the position in the way Iowa likes to use it.
